    Minimizing java application

I'm using using the following command to minimize my application

    Globals.DISPLAY.setCurrent(null);

Globals is part of my application. This works fine for a number of phones but it doesn't work for Nokia 6230i and 6280. Does anybody have another minimize-alternative for these phones?

can you send the midlet to the background? If that is what you mean by minimize?

6230i and 6280 are Series 40 devices. On those devices you cannot run midlet on the background (in effect "minimize the app"). It is either active on the foreground or you have to close it if you want to run another application.

ouch, thank you hartti for the answer, learn something new everyday!

BTW: how do you gt to be a forum nokia champion, if you have less posts than I? Is it because, you changed your profile, or login, and then asked Nokia to xfer the POSTs to the new accout? Just curious!

I am not a Forum Nokia Champion. FN Champion is a recognition and award program (and a title) where individuals are selected on the basis of their outstanding skills and devotion to the Forum Nokia community. My connection to Forum Nokia is work related :-)

    Re: Minimizing java application

Ok, thank you hartti for confirming this. So I guess I will have to remove the minimize/run in background functionality for series 40 phones then. Is there any easy way to find out if it's a Series 40 phone or not? Maybe System.getProperty(...) in any way?

    Re: Minimizing java application

It might be this one, but I am unsure, I believe it is. Else you might look for Nokias MIDP System Properties Example, or something or other.

    microedition.platform

It is also sent to webserver as a header(maybe only if going through wap stack)

If your device supports it, you can also get it using AT commands

    Re: Minimizing java application

I tried the microedition.platform allready and it just returns model and software version. Nothing about the OS (ex Series 40 or 60). I can't find any property field in the Nokia MIDP System Properties documentation that will return this information. Do you know which header-value that contains this information if you do a http request? I checked the user-agent but I can't find anything usefull there.

    Re: Minimizing java application

our webserver shows this in webserver logs, from a normal http get

    6630
    Mozilla/4.0+compatible;+MSIE+5.0;+Series60/2.8+Nokia6630/4.06.0+Profile/MIDP-2.0+Configuration/CLDC-1.1) - - my.company.com 200 0 0 839 884 140

    6010
    Nokia6010/1.0+(8.62)+Profile/MIDP-1.0+Configuration/CLDC-1.0 - - my.company.com 200 0 0 679 1517 78

As you can see, for some devices, I was hoping all, it shows the series version, note you might get different results, depending on whether device is going through WAP proxy, or not going through WAP proxy

Is there any way to distinguish the series from 8.62, I am not sure.

Also, some devices send that uaprof url, a webservice can check that URL when a get or post is made by a java device, that URL gives a lot of information.

The complete header dump, from a POST or GET, may also give a lot more information, did on my device(6630). You can get that by any number of means, I found a cgi/perl script called echoenv.cgi, it echos all the headers, back to device.

Also search the forums more, and maybe you can find something better, there is always more...somewhere!
