    problem reading SMS from 3230

    Hello,
I am trying to read SMS from nokia 3230. Although I can see there are
many messages in my inbox on the phone, at+cmgl returns nothing.

Here are the results of some AT commands on my nokia 3230:

    AT+CPMS=?
    +CPMS: ("SM"), ("SM"), ("MT")

    OK
    AT+CPMS?
    +CPMS: "SM",0,35,"SM",0,35,"MT",0,35

    OK
    AT+CPMS="SM"
    +CPMS: 0,35,0,35,0,35

    OK
    AT+CMGL=?
    +CMGL: (0-4)

    OK
    AT+CMGL=0

    OK

    AT+CPMS="ME"
    ERROR
    AT+CPMS="MT"
    ERROR

Any idea ? Do I need to configure something first ? Thanks.

    Have a try

    In AT+CMGL=x command
    0: "REC UNREAD",
    1: "REC READ",
    2: "STO UNSENT",
    3: "STO SENT",
    4: "ALL"

you do AT+CMGL=0, so you got a empty sms list.

you should send AT+CMPS in following format:
    AT+CPMS="XX","XX","XX"

    an example
    ------------------------
    AT+CPMS=?
    +CPMS: ("ME","SM"),("ME","SM"),("MT")

    OK
    AT+CPMS="ME","SM","MT"
    +CPMS: 150,150,15,15,165,165

    OK
    -----------------------------------

i did it in nokia 6610

Re: problem reading SMS from 3230

omg, it was buggy registration. I hope that nokias product work better than this forum. But I fear not. Last day I try find 4h solution for this same problem and seems that there is only +CPMS: ("SM"), ("SM"), ("MT"). So if I am right there is no way to read SMS from 3230 with AT commands. Liken new car without wheels so I get cheapest phone (not nokia) from shop and use it to sms modem. Ok many other older nokias support ME reading but because seems that there is this kind "development" I think that some day you cannot even talk with you nokia phone.

N3230 has a S60 OS,it's Preferred Message Format is only "SM","SM","MT".And AT+CMGL can only list the messages in SIM.
