    problem installing sis file

    Hey guys,

    I am having a problem with my nokia 6670. I am trying to install a sample program from the Symbian Series60 SDK version 7.0 (which is listed as the proper version for this phone). After generating my sis file, I used the Nokia application installer that came with the phone. It successfully downlaods the file and attempts to install. the phone displays:

    "Application is untrusted and may have problems. Install only ifyou trust provider." ::I click yes::

    "Install travis_hello?" ::I click yes::

    "application my not be compatibel with phone. Quit isntallation?" :: I click no::

    after asking to specify which memory I want to use it displays:

    "File Corrupted" and the exits the installation process.

    Am I not setting up something in the phone? The two files that I inlcuded in my package file for generating the sis file is the *.rsc file and *.app file. Any ideas? Here's my PKG file:

    ;
    ;first helloworld package file
    ;
    ;Specify the English language
    &EN
    ;installation name and UI, make sure UI is in range!!!!
    #{"travis_hello"}, (0x01000042),1,0,0
    ;
    ;files to install
    "C:\nokia6670\helloworld.app"-"!:\System\Apps\Helloworld\\helloworld.app"
    "C:\nokia6670\helloworld.rsc"-"!:\System\Apps\Helloworld\helloworld.rsc"

    Thanks,

    Travis

    Does your pkg file includes a line like:
    Code:
    ;Supports Series 60
    (0x101F6F88), 0, 0, 0, {"Series60ProductID"}
    ??

    Make sure the SDK version you are using is S60 2nd FP1 or lower.
    Also make sure you build for armi or thumb.

    It would be better if you'd post the entire content of the pkg file you're using if still facing problems.

    I think, the double \\ causes the problem. However you can eliminate the compatibility warning via including the pre-requisite header.

    Re: problem installing sis file

    Hey guys,

    The problem actually was the double "\" in my package file. It installed on my phone but now I cant find the program! If I look under "tools\app. manager" I can see that it is indeed installed, but I can not find the icon on the phone so I cant run it.

    The book I have says I should set my target to ARMI when I build it for the target machine, but I dont have that option in code warrior. What is the difference in ARMI and WINS? I was under the understanding that wins is for studio.net and wincw is for codewarrior.

    Have you searched it also in "My Own" / "Instal." folders in the main menu?

    Re: problem installing sis file

    When you refer to "myown/instal" directory, are you refering to a directory on the phone? I dont think I have anything like that. The series 60 simulator shows the icon at the bottom of the main menu, but on the phone it does not appear. Do I need to include more than the *.app and *.rsc file in my package file for generating the *.sis file?

    Yes, something like:
    Code:
    ;Language - standard language definitions
    &EN

    ; standard SIS file header
    #{"MyApp"},(0x101010101),1,0,0

    ;Supports Series 60 v 0.9
    (0x101F6F88), 0, 0, 0, {"Series60ProductID"}

    ; files to install
    "\Symbian\7.0s\Series60_v20\Epoc32\release\armi\urel\MyApp.app"			-"!:\system\apps\MyApp\MyApp.app"
    "\Symbian\7.0s\Series60_v20\Epoc32\data\z\system\apps\MyApp\MyApp.rsc"		-"!:\system\apps\MyApp\MyApp.rsc"
    "\Symbian\7.0s\Series60_v20\Epoc32\data\z\system\apps\MyApp\MyApp_caption.rsc"	-"!:\system\apps\MyApp\MyApp_caption.rsc"
    "\Symbian\7.0s\Series60_v20\Epoc32\data\z\system\apps\MyApp\MyApp.aif"		-"!:\system\apps\MyApp\MyApp.aif"
    So: app file, two rsc files, one aif file (this keeps the icon of the application for displaying in the menu of the phone)

    Re: problem installing sis file

    Ok, I've been poking around at this for a week and I can't figure out a few things. I've generated the *.aif file through my *.mmp file in codewarrior, and I've included it in my *.pkg file. However, I still get the same results as I did before: the program installs but there is no visible icon to load the application. I've noticed in the last post, the files included in the *.pkg to make the *.sis file were: an app file, two rsc, and an aif file. The only file I can't find is the "myapp_caption.rsc" file. I assume this is to display the caption under the icon. Where is this file generated? The only caption file I find is the one that has this in it:

    // helloaif.rss
    //
    // Copyright (c) 2000 Symbian Ltd. All rights reserved.

    #include <aiftool.rh>

    RESOURCE AIF_DATA
    {
    caption_list=
    {
    CAPTION { code=ELangEnglish; caption="Hello!"; },
    CAPTION { code=ELangFrench; caption="Bonjour!"; },
    CAPTION { code=ELangSpanish; caption="Olà!"; }
    };
    //
    app_uid=0x01000042;
    //
    num_icons=1;
    }

    But this is an *.rss file. Can anyone set me straight?

    My next question is when Codewarrior generated my helloworld.aif file it also generated a helloworld_xip.aif file. What is the this _xip.aif file used for?
