Question J2ME MIDP2.0 Emulator supporting unicode Chinese characters

    Hi,

I am trying to develop a MIDP2.0 application that displays Chinese characters using their unicode sequence (\uXXXX).

    * Does anyone know what emulator can i use for this MIDP2.0 app ?

Nokia 7210 emulator works fine but only for MIDP1.0 apps.

    * Also, does anyone know if Nokia N70 (series 60) would support unicode sequences ?

    Many Thanks,

    Dan

the Mobile PlatForm can't support the unicode,it only support the UTF-8,you can't transform the unicode to UTF-8.

could you use one of the chinese sdk's? if there are not any here, i.e. at Nokia, you might be able to use an sdk from another manufacturer that has a chinese SDK, just for your end testing purposes

Question Re: J2ME MIDP2.0 Emulator supporting unicode Chinese characters

I would be happy to use a chinese SDK : but where to find one ?

I am sure people that have developed chinese app have solved those problems before.

    IMPORTANT NOTE
I am able to display unicode sequences in 7210 emulator.
Do you think this will not be the case in the device (Nokia N70) ?

    Many Thanks,

    Dan

I am not sure on your question...

    "IMPORTANT NOTE

Do you think this will not be the case in the device (Nokia N70) [B]"

but my device is originally chinese, and my java when I screw it up, shows the unicode as the [] block symbol, not two brackets, I dont know how to make the symbol.

I havnt figured out how to get my device, to show java output in chinese, as it is always english, do you know how?

as too chinese emulators, let me look around, hope i am not talking sh*t...

chinese emulator...(unless I am misunderstanding you)

    http://www.forum.nokia.com/main/0,6566,034-483,00.html

on right hand pane, select from downloads drop down

or goto main page, select tools and sdks link on left, select its "menuitem" java tools,
    select this link
    http://www.forum.nokia.com/main/0,6566,034-483,00.html
or S60 Platform SDKs for Symbian OS, for Java

and under "Download version for: "
chnage from sdk for 3rd edition, to 2nd ed fp2 chinese

    file is:
    ns60_jme_sdk_v2_6f_C.zip

if you cant find it try searching for above, and note that is just one example, there are many sdks's listed there with a chinese version, as well as other langs.

Re: J2ME MIDP2.0 Emulator supporting unicode Chinese characters

We´ve detected a problem with the Nokia 6600. When an HTTP connection is used, a 0XFF byte received in the input stream is interpreted as "end of file" character and the conection is closed. This is a O.S failure. We´ve tried with the last firmware version 5.53.0 for the 6600 and the problem remains.

PLEASE NOKIA GUYS take note about this issue and correct it.

    We hope this help.

    Re: Unicode Display in N70

If the N70 does not have a bangla font, then it has no way of displaying bangla characters, even if they're Unicode. When a character/glyph does not exist, a blank square/box is displayed, instead.

The only way to fix that is to do your own font handling, or install a new system/default font with the characters you need (a new system font will also be used by every other application on the phone, too, including the operating system, so be careful if you take that approach).
