    Problem With Nokia N70

    Hi All

    I have been running ( and developing ) a J2ME application that sends data to a server. On a nokia 6600, 6670 and 6680 the application works perfectly. On a Nokia N70 when I try upload the phone does not connect to the internet, but as soon as I hit the menu button on the phone's keypad, the connection is made and the data is uploaded. Does anyone know of a reason this is happening.

    TIA
    Steve

    Re: Problem With Nokia N70

    Hi All

    Sorry I may not have given enough information ( I am guessing that is why no one has responded ).

    Whenever I want to connect to a web page using the following:

    public InputStream inps;
    HttpConnection gprsconn = null;
    .
    .
    .
    gprsconn = (HttpConnection)Connector.open ("http://mydomain/mypage.htm");

    inps = gprsconn.openDataInputStream();

    when the above lines run I am asked if I want to allow the phone connect and when I say yes a list of connections is displayed and I select which one I want to use.

    On a Nokia 6600, 6670 and 6680 the connection is made a response is received and the J2ME app continues to run.

    On a Nokia N70, the code stops and by accident I found that when I press the "menu" key on the phone's key pad the connection is made, I see this because I see GPRS connecting on my phoes screen, and once a response comes in, my phone jumps back into my app.

    Re: Problem With Nokia N70

    Hi All

    Let me rephrsase the question and hopefully someone from Nokia can answer it.

    What has changed from the Nokia 6680 To The Nokia N70 that will cause a change in behaviour of the following code ?

    gprsconn = (HttpConnection)Connector.open ("http://mydomain/mypage.htm");

    inps = gprsconn.openDataInputStream();

    Regards
    Steve

    Hi Ali

    Thanks for the response.

    I have already looked at the 1st link you sent, in fact I responded to it.

    The 2nd link is not relevant as my connection does not go "Boom"

    Any other ideas.

    Re: Problem With Nokia N70

    Just a couple of thoughts - when you press the menu button your app gets paused and the OS gets a much larger slice of the 'time pie' - it seems suspicious to me that it then connects - could it need more time to complete the task on this model - ie are you Thread.yield() ing or sleep ing enough? thought 2 - HideNotify() will be called before any phone UI is shown - is this being called differently in this model ?

    Thanks you were 100% correct, I put a sleep on the thread and now it all connects.

    How long do you sleep() ?

    When and where? I can't get it to function, unfortunately - despite sleeping. However, there are two threads active in my app. I try to sleep on both, I yield lots already.

    I get the exact same symptoms.

    Hi Thygrrr

    I sleep for one millisecond i.e. thread.sleep(1);

    The way my app works is, I start the thread and until a global variable is set to a value other than 999, I wait, and that is where I put in the sleep.

    ......
    thread=new Thread(this);
    thread.start();
    while (gret==999)
    {
    try
    {
    thread.sleep(1);
    }
    catch(Exception e){}
    }
    ......
