How to recover key pair from certificate

    Hello,

I am trying to sign my MIDlet. I have followed the instruction below to create key pair and obtain a valid certificate from GeoTrust

    http://java.sun.com/j2me/docs/wtk2.2.../security.html

Unfortunately, I deleted the key pairs which I originally used to create the certificate signing request. Is there anyway I can recover from that? Can I import the key pair from the certificate file? Do I need the original key at all?

    Please help

    Thanks
    ben

Unfortunately yes, you do need your original key file....
The certificate only contains your public key information.

Did you create a keystore (.ks) file at any point? There are some utilities available that can export the key pair from a keystore.

there is a default J2ME keystore, but I am afarid it doesn't have my original keys.

at this point, I only have the certificate with me, what can I do so I can sign MIDlet again?

Antony is right. The certificate you got only contains the public key. Without the original keystore with private key, you can not sign Midlet.

Do you remember the information you had input when you created your keystore? Such as country, provice, city and so on. Maybe you can try to create new keystore with same information. That has the possibility to create the same key pair if it has nothing to do with time, but I have not try it.

your CA authority, should be able to issue you a new one, hopefully, just contact them.

this time, when you do the CSR, create backups of your keystore, before, after, in between, etc. and keep a copy of all settings you put in request, as well as password
