    length of sms messages

    hello every body

    i need to know if we say "7bit sms character encoding " ,
    and the length of our sms is 160 character, what will be the length of
    bits we send .

    I'm not sure I understand.

    A single SMS message data payload capacity is 140 bytes (some call them octets) of 8 bits each.

    With the 7-bit default SMS alphabet you can fit 160 characters in those 140 bytes.

    With Unicode you can fit 70 characters.

    Then there is also additional protocol/header overhead, etc., but I don't know how many bits or bytes in total.
