Red face Run an application outside of them.

Hello everybody... I'am building an application with J2ME that is gonna run on S40 platform with CLCD 1.0 and MIDP 1.0. But I need that it runs always on the mobile and, therefore, the user can use the mobile normally as if the application wasn't runing. In other words, I need to make that my app. has a control for turn it on and off but when the user leaves it and turn back to the Nokia OS, the app. is continue working. So when the user wants to turn it off, all that he has to do is come back to the app. and turn it off. When the app. is running it has to pay attention to some events too. Well, if somebody can helps me with this please... do it. Thankyou.

PD. Apologies for my english. Thanks

    Hi,

AFAIK It is not possible to run an application in the background in MIDP1.0 phones. ie; if the user has to go back to the phones native system then he have close the java application he is running.

    Hi jsamuelsv,

I think Wang is right. In fact, IMHO such a limitation is not a MIDP 1.0 one but Series 40 (there are MIDP 1.0 phones based on Symbian, e.g. Nokia 7650).

I've heard that future Series 40 (not clear if still 3rd Edition) will change that. By now, in order to achieve it you'll need Symbian S60 phones.

    Hope it helps.

Hi jsamuelsv! Welcome to Nokia Discussion Boards!!

Well as of now even in Series 40 3rd Ed, in my experience its not possible to run an app in back ground. As Juarez said, have to wait and see the behaviour in upcomming S40 phones.

BTW, MIDP 3.0 specs say its " Enable multiple concurrent MIDlets in one VM, Enable background MIDlets (e.g. UI-less)"

I am looking forward for the announcement of any MIDP 3.0 phones!

    Regards
