    Re: Creating a Ticker on Front screen of mobile

    AFAIK from a Java app it is not possible to run a Ticker on the front screen of a mobile(The default main screen). But I dont know whether it would be possible from a Symbian C++ app(I doubt no!).

    Hi vishweb123,

    I think what Gopal told is right. Please forgive me but your question was not that clear.

    What you want is the same as the MIDlet we download to access CNN Mobile does, right?

    That one is a MIDlet, i know, and AFAIK in MIDP we have the Ticker, maybe it's what you're looking for. Check the Javadocs for javax.microedition.lcdui.Ticker.

    "A ticker is simply a bit of text that scrolls across the top of a Displayable; it is named after old-fashioned stock tickers. The Ticker class is a simple wrapper for a string."

    As Gopal said, you'll not be able to set anything in front of a System screen. On the other hand, you can do that using MIDlets that override the system screen and have a Ticker, ok?

    Is it what you're looking for?

    hey juarezjunior ,
    Thanks , your question is correct !!!! but i created many applications such as Stock Ticker , News Ticker ,DownloadZone (as PepsiZone) Application , These tickers r running within the application .OK?? . I think ticker on the front screen cannot be created in j2me , it requires Symbian programming , Correct??? Bcoz it deals with System resources ...................

    To display a Ticker in a Java app, Here are some links that would be of some interest to you.

    >>but i created many applications such as Stock Ticker , News Ticker ,DownloadZone (as PepsiZone) Application , These tickers r running within the application .OK??

    Yep, these Tickers could be running with in the application.

    >>I think ticker on the front screen cannot be created in j2me , it requires Symbian programming , Correct???

    As I said earlier you cannot display a Ticker on the front screen of the phone from a J2ME app, I am not sure whether its possible from a Symbian C++ app.

    Re: Creating a Ticker on Front screen of mobile

    A ticker in a J2ME application can be created with the 'Ticker' class.
    Something like this:
    Ticker myTicker = new Ticker(Calendar.getInstance().toString());
    TextBox box = new TextBox("My Textbox", "Text", 256, TextField.ANY);
    box.setTicker(myTicker);

    If the question is how to run a Ticker outside a J2ME application where the Ticker was created (such as on the main screen on the phone), I will not be able to answer that.

    Re: Creating a Ticker on Front screen of mobile

    Hi guys,
    I'm a little confused here. I have the ticker thing in my java app (using J2ME), and it works fine in the sun WTK, but not in the nokia devices (using nokia 6230), do nokia devices not support tickers?
    more generally, if someone has an idea,
    where can I find more information about the implementation details of different devices of J2ME?

    much appriciate any comment,

    Re: Creating a Ticker on Front screen of mobile

    harshnikhil, As pointed out on this thread already:
    With Java you can only display a ticker when your midlet is running on the foreground (see javax.microedition.lcdui.Ticker)
