Take picture (getSnapshot): update devices list

    Hi!
I would like to know if there is an updated version of this document:

    http://www.forum.nokia.com/info/sw....1_0_en.pdf.html

Or if someone has done some successful test on other devices that are NOT present in that document.
I can add to the list N91 (locator = capture//video)
I succeed to take a snapshot with this parameter: encoding=png&width=640&height=480

    Others?

    Many thanks for any contribute!

The link that you have provided is broken!

In case you have missed, here is a latest document (Date of publication:2006-04-07 ) lists the Mobile Media API (JSR-135) features that are supported in Nokia devices.

MIDP: Mobile Media API Support In Nokia Devices
    http://www.forum.nokia.com/info/sw.n..._0_en.pdf.html

Re: Take picture (getSnapshot): update devices list

    Ok Nokia paople..

    I will be more precise.
    In this document:

    http://www.forum.nokia.com/info/sw.n..._0_en.pdf.html

there are the following "new" handsets that should or not should be put inside:

    6020, 6822, 6101, 6102, 6230, 6155, 6152, 6111, 6265, 3250, E70, E61, 7360, 7370, 6135, N92, N80, N71, 6234, 6233, 6282, 6103, 6125, 6136, 6070, 6131, 6126, N73, N93, N72, 5500, E50

Do you think that is the case to update the document or not?

    Thanks..

PS: I will appreciate also if someone has done some test about taking snapshot with one of this list..

Re: Take picture (getSnapshot): update devices list

    Hi,

As we have this platform approach, you can work with the assumption that what is supported in one platform is supported in most handsets for that particular platform.

New devices will be added as the document is updated in the next releases, specially regarding s60 3rd edition devices.

Based on practical experience, I would say that support in s40 is more uniform across devices (as there is no feature packs), while in s60 there are more differences, that will be brought to this document soon.

    Thanks you for your answer..
You say that "support in s40 is more uniform across devices"..
But what about 6270 and 6280?
From the java point of view (and also generally) are VERY similar, but ONLY 6280 supports getSnapshot..

Is for this reason that should be better a test on real devices or to have an OFFICIAL document from Nokia..

In the first case I can ask help to someone that has tried (I CANNOT buy ALL devices..). And for the second case I will wait from Nokia an update..

Re: Take picture (getSnapshot): update devices list

    Hi,

Agreed that some devices are different, but for your particular example, 6280 is a lead device (differs from the baseline s40 3rd. edition) and that's why it is listed separately in the document. So, aside from 6280, we have to assume that no other devices present in the document under s40 3rd. baseline support camera.

Of course, when the document is updated, more lead devices will be introduced and their features published there, but I wouldn't expect that ALL devices will be listed there, because, as I said above, most of them share similar characteristics, and those who don't (6280) are listed aside from the baseline platform.

etamburini, updating the doc you mentioned is on our to-do list. I cannot state any specific dates, but I have notified the documentation team that update for this doc has been requested in here.

Thumbs up Re: Take picture (getSnapshot): update devices list

    Hartti & Daniel,

Thanks and please do help with the list, for the camera function can be an important function even for a business application written in Java.

But can anyone give an answer as to whether 6151 supports SnapShot function like 6280?

Re: Take picture (getSnapshot): update devices list

According to the platform team, all devices after 6280 should support it, so that includes 6151.

Re: Take picture (getSnapshot): update devices list

    ok..but one moment..
    What about createPlayer parameter?

I mean..With all Nokia I have to use this command:

    mPlayer = Manager.createPlayer("capture://image");

whereas with 6680 (and I think also 6681 and 6682)

    mPlayer = Manager.createPlayer("capture://devcam0");

Which is the case of 6151?

Re: Take picture (getSnapshot): update devices list

i can add the 3250 also

what about the resolutions supported ?
i know that for example 6670 supports 640x480, but in fact it is a 160x120 resized, while the 6680 supports 640x480 for real.
how do i know what are the resolutions supported ? and how do i know if it really is the indicated resolution that is used ?
