    S60 3rd Edition & OMA DRM

    hi,
    I working with some new Nokia phones (N91, N71, 3250, N80, E70) which are all S60 3rd Edition. When testing them on media support I recognized, that they all have the same problems with oma drm locked content. Most of them can't play oma forward locked mp3s for example. Some can't view forward locked jpegs. I also used phones with different firmware versions and recognized, that for example the 3250 with firmware version V3.18 doesn't like any forward locked content. A 3250 with version V3.21 has no problems with oma drm.
    S60 2nd Edition phones never had problems like that. Either a phone did support oma drm or did not.
    I would be interested in talking to people who made the same or similar experience.
    Maybe someone can give me a hint why S60 3rd Edition phones have these troubles and if there are firmware versions which can cope with oma drm in general.

    regards
    Bernie

    Hi,

    What is the error message you're getting? Problems with content itself or something like "Activation Key Invalid"?

    Re: S60 3rd Edition & OMA DRM

    Hi dcrocha!
    The error message when opening forward locked files is "No Activation Key". I know that issue from separate delivery where you need a rights object to activate the .dcf file. I also recognized that S60 3rd Edition phones use the extension '.dcf' for all oma drm content files. Normally a forward locked file would have '.drm' or '.dm'. For example:
    The 3250 with firmware version V3.18 (date: 03.03.06) can't use forward locked files at all. --> Error: "No Activation Key".
    I tested another 3250 with firmware version V3.21 (date: 01.04.06) which can use forward locked jpeg, gif, midi, mp4, wav, 3gp BUT no mp3 (--> Error: "Can't play media clip").
    Combined Delivery files are no problem most of the time. Does Nokia want developers to use combined delivery instead of forward locked (cd without constraints)?
    It's the same with other phones (N91, N71, etc.) - the older the firmware the fewer forward locked media types can be used by the phone.
    Do you know what could be the reason for this behaviour?

    regards
    Bernie

    Hi,

    I don't think Nokia has any particular preference on the format of DRM protection used, so I couldn't answer that.

    The ".dcf" instead of ".dm" is intentional, and it's part of the internal implementation, so you shouldn't worry about that.

    I have spoken to the s60 support and they told me there is indeed a bug with FL in 3250, and it would be fixed by the next software version. It goes more or less like this: you download a FL file supported by the phone, it plays OK. Then you download another file, and if for some reason (codec bug, spec) it's not supported, that blocks all the other FL content in the phone.

    It's a nasty bug indeed, so I'd use combined delivery for now (when speaking of s60 3rd.), just to keep your application working, and then migrate to FL again when the problem is fixed.

    I tested the DRM separate delivery on N70 and N80. The N70 is perfect and has no problems. It receive the key and played the contents. But for N80, the play status is "Not Activated" and when execute the .dcf file the message "Activation key is Expired". The constraint used is play x days. In both phones, the key status is VALID. Can anyone guide me what is wrong with N80 device? Thanks

    Hi Andrew ,
    dcf file in case of separare delivery can be transferred using Bluetooth. however rights file needs to be pushed using WAP Push.

    I assume that u r asking about rights and rights pushing can be done using WAP Push only.

    Re: S60 3rd Edition & OMA DRM

    Hey bfamler,

    I usually work with the N series from Nokia too .. And lots of Nokia phones have been through my hand.. but I didn't experience that kind of problem except once, and I went with the E70 I think to a specialist and he also said he doesn't know what it's wrong.. Fortunely I haven't encountered that error anymore, so now I'm ok. Did you figure out what is wrong?

    Best regards

    Note that the Eseries devices, except for the E90 (and possibly the recently announced E51) do not have OMA DRM v2 support enabled (just OMA DRM v1).

    Hi all,

    I´ve got a similar problem. I'm testing forward lock and combined delivery on Nokia N93 and Nokia N95.

    I sent this messagem to both devices, but only N95 deal with this...

    Code:
    --mime_content_boundary
    Content-Type: application/vnd.oma.drm.rights+xml
    Content-Transfer-Encoding: binary

    <o-ex:rights xmlns:o-ex="http://odrl.net/1.1/ODRL-EX" xmlns:o-dd="http://odrl.net/1.1/ODRL-DD" xmlns:ds="http://www.w3.org/2000/09/xmldsig#/">
      <o-ex:context>
        <o-dd:version>1.0</o-dd:version>
      </o-ex:context>
      <o-ex:agreement>
        <o-ex:asset>

          </o-ex:context>
        </o-ex:asset>
        <o-ex:permission>
          <o-dd:display>
            <o-ex:constraint>
              <o-dd:datetime>
                <o-dd:start>2008-12-9T23:23:23</o-dd:start>
                <o-dd:end>2008-12-10T23:23:23</o-dd:end>
              </o-dd:datetime>
              <o-dd:interval>P0Y0M1DT0H0M0S</o-dd:interval>
            </o-ex:constraint>
          </o-dd:display>
        </o-ex:permission>
      </o-ex:agreement>
    </o-ex:rights>

    --mime_content_boundary
    Content-Type: video/3gpp
    Content-Transfer-Encoding: binary

    (...binary content...)
    I generated this code using cruel2bekind api.
    Somebody have any idea about?

    thanks in advance

    Re: S60 3rd Edition & OMA DRM

    Can someone explain why a DRM wrapped mp3 file served via bluetooth works and plays on an N70(S60 2ndEd FP3) but not on the N95 8Gb (S60 3rdEd FP1)??? I get a "File is corrupted operation cancelled" error message and a prompt to "Save now" ???
