    Can we access information already stored in memory of device

    HI

    Can we wite an j2me application to retrive
    information already stored in memory of device(such as nokia 3100)
    such as phone book

    Not sure whether u can access the phonebook.but check the jsr75PIM Api.

    But can we use pim api with midp1.0
    and i need to access the information of phone book (or any thing stored in memory)
    from a nokia device

    Hi,

    You can't use PIM api with MIDP1.0 phones.
    It is supported even only in some of the midp2.0 phones.

    But is there any alternative
    so that i can access the info stored in memory of device
    some where in sun fourms i found that we can access the native
    methods using JNI, will it help me in access the information stored in device
    as i am new to j2me i am not able to understand it

    please reply as soon as possible

    Rameshwari, there is no alternative to JSR-75; if you want to access the files or contacts on the device, you need to have that API on the device. JNI is not available in Java ME.

    Please use the sites pointed by wang_Shui above to find out which devices support PIM and File Connection API
