is there PIM listener or address book listener?

    Hi,

Is there a way to add listeners to PIM or the address book in Nokia handhelds?
How can I let the application monitor if the user add or delete a contact item?

I cannot find any related information in this forum, also it is not in the Nokia's PIM introduction. So I guess it is impossible, am I right?

    Thanks!

    Hi,

AFAIK there's no such listener out of the box. Maybe you can implement on your own using the Observer design pattern but you'll need to develop a framework for that, i guess.

    Hi, Thanks for your info!

To do so, does it mean I need to develop a different PIM system?
That is, there will be two "address book" in the handheld. Thus, users maybe get confused.

    Hello,

"To do so, does it mean I need to develop a different PIM system?"
No, it's not what i meant. It's just a tip, you should encapsulate access to PIM databases and provide an event notification mechanism as per your requirement. It's just a possible workaround, though.

Well, if you implement the observer pattern how can you cope with the event when a user just adds an item to the PIM directly using normal methods (e.g. The phone) without going through Java.

The only possible way I see this can be done is if the Java application is continually polling the address book and keeping a version to compare it with to check for changes, this can then fire off an event for your program but its yucky and icky
