    Re: Find CellID with J2ME

    I am not fully sure how to extract the MCC and MNC separately on S40 3rd ed FP1 and 5th ed FP1 devices. The documentation states that they are both contained in a 4-6 digit string when fetching System properties 'com.nokia.mid.mnc' and 'com.nokia.mid.networkID'. I can't seem to get any useful output on the 3rd ed and 5th ed emulators so can somebody tell me how the output string is formatted and how I can extract the two contained values separately.

    Thanks in advance

    Re: Find CellID with J2ME

    Hi DileepKumar,

    Retrieving location (coordinates) from Cell id using the Location API (JSR-179) is only possible on Series 40 devices with Java Runtime 1.0.0. If you read carefully this article:
    http://www.developer.nokia.com/Commu...on_via_Cell_ID

    you will find a link to all the devices that support Cell-id location retrieval:
    http://www.developer.nokia.com/Devic...vaRuntime1.0.0

    You devices are Symbian, so the behavior you are describing is expected. Your devices do not support location retrieval from Cell-id using the JSR-179 Location API.

    Re: Find CellID with J2ME

    You need to use Nokia SDK 1.0 for Java. You can download it from here:

    http://www.developer.nokia.com/Develop/Java/

    Then you need to integrate the SDK to your Eclipse IDE. You can find instructions here:
    http://library.developer.nokia.com/i...20FD7EFD2.html

    Again, I repeat, that if you try to run a program that contains these lines:
    Code:
    import com.nokia.mid.location.LocationUtil;
    provider = LocationUtil.getLocationProvider(methods, null);
    to a phone that is not in this list:
    http://www.developer.nokia.com/Devic...vaRuntime1.0.0

    you will get a NoClassDefFoundError, because only the phones in the above list support the LocationUtil.

    Re: Find CellID with J2ME

    You will find the list of devices that support what you are looking for by clicking on this link:
    http://www.developer.nokia.com/Devic...vaRuntime1.0.0

    You will find a code example here:
    http://www.developer.nokia.com/Commu...on_via_Cell_ID

    You need to use Nokia SDK 1.0 for Java to compile your code. My previous post provides information on where to get it and how to use it in Eclipse.

    Re: Find CellID with J2ME

    I am afraid it is not possible to get your current coordinates on Symbian Devices using the JSR-179 Location API (the example I provided).
    You might want to search for an external library that might work on Symbian.

    Skyhook, for example, seems to provide a Professional Symbian SDK for location retrieval by collecting raw data from Wi-Fi access points, GPS satellites and cell towers:

    Re: Find CellID with J2ME

    I want to find network based location(latitude and longitude) values in nokia mobiles using Java ME .
    just to be short : simply not possible... J2ME does not supply this in any known JSR...
    Note: please don't send private questions to me, as I don't have time to provide private support. All such questions should be posted on public forums, where I and others can see and answer them.
