    Flash Lite Playback Bug

There is a serious screen redraw bug in the series 60 implementation of Flash Lite 1.1. I have seen it on a couple of different swfs and on one in particular that I have been developing.

However I can't workout what the cause is. Assuming this is a known issue can anyone from Nokia provide some sort of technical explaination so that developers can try and implement workarounds? If its not a known issue how can we make sure the QA team is aware of it and that there will be some developer guidance in the future?

From a consumer point of view it is a very visual error that will have a negative affect on anyone who is using content when this occurs so I think its something that would be very useful for developers to know about.

    Cheers

    Re: Flash Lite Playback Bug

Without going into causes, maybe you should try to explain what kind of screen redraw bug or issue it is, exactly, that you have seen?

Without providing a file that demonstrates it, screenshots or even a text description, it might be hard to figure out what you're referring to.

Also, have you asked Macromedia/Adobe developer support about it, already?

    Re: Flash Lite Playback Bug

    Hi Petrib,

Well I can't provide a file publicly and I can't isolate the issue that is causing the screen redraw problem so I can't produce a test case file either. If Nokia know about it (I'd be suprised if they didn't) then its obvious which bug I am talking about. If they don't then I can provide test files privately, but thats why I am posting it here - to provide some kind of referece to the bug.

The description would be a yellow flash across an entire horizontal segment of the screen part of which stays yellow until some visual change forces that area to be redrawn.

I haven't contacted Adobe because this is specific to the Nokia series 60 3rd edition port of the FL payer - I have never seen this on any other version and I have been using FL for a very longtime. I don't think Adobe would be in a position to help.

    Re: Flash Lite Playback Bug

Well, Adobe wrote the Flash-Lite player for S60 for Nokia, and I suppose they also maintain the player code. Of course, if there's a ever a fix, then Adobe would pass it to Nokia who'd have to release a firmware update with such a fix.

    Re: Flash Lite Playback Bug

well, this is not very helpful but I don't think its as clearcut as you. Nokia license the SDK and then implement it, the series 60 3rd edition version of Flash Lite is not the same as the s60 reference player. Flash is on Nokia handsets and is a Nokia implementation so both Adobe and Nokia are involved.

Anyway, I posted here to try and highlight a bug that developers need to workaround. I'll also try posting on Adobe and see if we can get somewhere.

Can anyone from Nokia confirm how I should be trying to highlight this issue?

    Re: Flash Lite Playback Bug

    hi nick,

are you able to reproduce that issue with different .swf?
if so - you can simply make sample file and post here, some people have device with fl embedded so they could clearly see what's wrong, If that is not repeatable simply send swf to adobe filling bug report,
Also if that is persistant to S60 platform can you try if you can repeat it with FlashLite2 player?

    regards,
    Peter

    Re: Flash Lite Playback Bug

    Hi Peter,

I cannot re-create this in a sample swf but I have it in at least 2 completely different dev swfs - I do not want to post these on a public forum. I have seen it in other peoples swfs too.

I have FL embedded devices hence the post. Its not a issue with my code, it is only an issue with series 60 3rd edition.

Like I said before I have never seen this ever anywhere else except, series 60 3rd edition. Works fine on s40 (FL1.1) s60 < 3rd edition with FL 1.1 and FL 2.0

I have tried screen capture but the app I used captures the affected area on the screen as a grey colour not the actual screen colours I am seeing, so not very useful.

Its a bug in the port of FL to series 60 3rd ed. or its a specific 3rd ed bug - either way developers need some kind of explanation or help to manage it.

    Cheers

    Re: Flash Lite Playback Bug

nickgerig, can you please send the swf in question to me (and description of how to see the error and what should be seen instead). I won't distribute it publicly, only to the relevant Flash people inside Nokia to find out more on this issue. I checked the error database, but I did not find anything related to this.
