The device is a member of a connection

    Hello everybody.

My problem is that the phone automatically connects to my nearby computer, because of the installed pc suite. When the phone is in a connection my midlet doesn't work correctly. My midlet finds the nearby devices and list them. But when the phone is in a connection the inquiring doesn't end.
I think that the midlet doesn't can use the bluetooth until the connection ends, and just wait for it.

1: Is it correct, or the problem is something else?
2: How can I check that the bluetooth is free and usable or not?

The program language is java. And my test phone is a nokia 6230i.

    Thanks for the answers.

Sorry to my bad knowledge of English.

Hi, You English is good I can understand it all.

I have a 6230i and my phone does exactly the same

There are a number of ways to avoid this problem:-

1.Go into the bluetooth menu and check the active connections box.
If it says Yes and shows a device/pc name select the device and then click the middle "disconnect button".

    2. If you are using Widcomm BT software v 1.4 change the "discovery" search time to 15 minutes in the control panel. This will slow the reconnect time for PC Suite.

    3. On you phone change the connection to your computer from "automatically connect" = YES to NO. This will allow you to say NO to the request from PC Suite to connect to you phone.

    4. If you need to stop connection for long period of time. Go into the PC Suite start up page click "manage connection" icon and "clear" the tick next to bluetooth and click ok. The "no phone connected message " comes up. Then carry out (1) above.

Remeber to reset bluetooth connection to "ticked" or reboot PC when you next need to connect, for instance to install new application.

    Hope this helps,
    Jim

    Hi Jim.

Thank your help. I like to make a midlet which can test that the bluetooth is ready to connect to a device or not. How can I make it in java language?

Re: The device is a member of a connection

    Hi Steven,
I have looked at all the readable properties in bluetooth and none of them seem to record the amount of connections taking place. The properties only specify the maximum connections that can take place and do not take into account PC Suite bluetooth conections. The connection may change the master/slave configuration. However not all phones implement this so I dont believe this to be the problem.

In Java (JSR82) we cannot access the lower layers to find out the current connection count if our MIDlet is not the owner of the connection for security reasons.
