Help! Gmail POP access on Nokia 6233

    Hi

I am trying to use my Nokia 6233 phone to access Gmail over POP. The Nokia has a new email client that supports SSL, but I keep getting a "Checking failed" error message with details "Certificate is not present".

Now, gmail uses Thwate Consulting (Pty) Ltd as its CA, and this certificate does exist on the 6233 (see Settings->Security->Authority Certificates->Certificate List). I have also enabled the cert for all uses (app signing, cross-certification, server authentication).

Can anyone help? My settings are shown below.

BTW, which securelogin value(s) does gmail support?

    Thanks, Andrew

    Incoming server settings
    - servertype=POP
    - servername=pop.gmail.com
    - username=<myid>@gmail.com

    Outgoing server settings
    - smtp.gmail.com
    - username&passord=same as incoming

    Advanced receiving settings
    - securelogin=I have tried all of these
    - sec.connection (SSL)=yes (ticked box)
    - serverportnumber=995

    Advanced sending settings
    - securelogin=I have tried all of these
    - sec.connection (SSL)=yes (ticked box)
    - serverportnumber=465

Re: Help! Gmail POP access on Nokia 6233

It seems as if the problem is only with POP (not SMTP), as I have been
able to send an email (securelogin=automatic, ssl=on,
    serverportnumber=465).

I have installed GMailChecker - and it raises the "Connection problem
    Certificate failed verification" error
    http://www.ocasta.co.uk/mt/archives/...hecker_mi.html

This matches the Nokia e-mail client error of "Certificate is not
    present".

OK, so which certificate is not present, and what can I do about it?

I can download Thawte certs from the URL below - but how do I install
    them on the Nokia 6233?
    http://www.thawte.com/roots/index.html

    Thanks
    Andrew

Thumbs up Re: Help! Gmail POP access on Nokia 6233

The problem with the certificate is to change the pop server to pop.googlemail.com in stead of pop.gmail.com. Keep the SMTP settings as they are. Thats all!

Hi Andreww100, I'm from India and have a 6233. I used to face the same problem as you said of certificate not being present. On studying all the threads i realised that the S-40 phone esp after upgrading to 5.6 Software does not have the equifax certificate that Gmail uses for SSL authentication. Point your phone browser to <http://www.ocasta.co.uk/cert.html>. The phone browser correctly identifies the correct certificate and asks you for downloading the equifax certificate. On downloading the cert, the browser asks confirmation to save. Select Yes, exit the browser and go back to the e-mail programme and the programme functions perfectly. It has worked for me.

btw, your settings are perfectly right. I use the default settings the new mail account wizard gives for Google Gmail accounts and only had to select SSL on in advanced sending and recieving settings

    Hi Ragapa97,

I have Nokia 3500c. I am trying to configure Gmail Pop a/c in default mail client provided by Nokia.

    Operating System : Nokia 3500c V 07.21

I have downloaded the certificate you mentioned and transfered the file to phone memory.

But still i am getting the same error "Certificate Not Present" while checking or sending mail from Nokia Email Client.

How to include this certificate in Nokia 3500c Mobile. Is it support different format?

    Awaiting Response.
    Thanks in Advance.
