.sis file installs but will not run on some S60 3rd devices.

I am porting an app from S60 1st/2nd to 3rd. The first beta version installs and runs fine on my 3250 and on emulator. However 2 beta testers report that the app installs but will not open. After selecting the icon the screen flashes and the app does not open. There is no error message. It has been tried on a total of 4 devices and fails on an N80 and N91. It runs fine on an 3250 and N80.

    Has anyone any ideas?
Unfortunately it runs fine on my device. A trial and error approach is difficult as the testers will soon lose patience.

    Some notes:
    Capabilities are: ReadUserData and WriteUserData.
Compiled (and signed) with Carbide express
The UID is 0xF01xxxxx ( a UID allocated for old s60 devices with the initial 0x1 changed to an 0xF)
    Vendor ID: 0x00000000
    Secure ID: blank
App does not (yet) have an SVG icon.

    Thanks
    Richy

it could be that your testing environment has corrupted during development, meaning that maybe your own device has something, that other phones do not have. most likely some file you made early stages on the development. To test this, have your phone (both C drive & MMC) formatted and then try again.

Anyway, 3rd edition devices are not reporting error very well (usually not at all), so you would need to get some sort of additional application running there to get the error information, unluckily PushL haven't got his app ready yet, so I don't know any other freeware that could do this.

Thank you yucca for the suggestion.

It did also run on an N80 owned by a beta tester who could not have had any of my old files.
How do you format the C drive of phone? I would like to try it.

    HI;

I face same issue some time back

I was working on E61(Nokia)....FOr that modify ur PKG file..

In OKG file mention full path of .exe i.e. where its gonne lie in phone

    for example

    "C:\Symbian\9.1\S60_3rd\Epoc32\release\GCCE\UREL\irda.exe" -"c:\sys\bin\irda.exe"

    It that
c:\sys\bin\irda.exe--is a path of phine where .exe will lie

    and
"C:\Symbian\9.1\S60_3rd\Epoc32\release\GCCE\UREL\irda.exe"--is a path of exe on your machine

Just try this...it worked fine with me

I still think something has changed for using S60 3rd Ed.

    Application Authorization
    File system protection
    Resource and Server protection
    Secure Interprocess Communication

All four have been added in E60 S60 3rd Ed devices

I still think its Resource and Server protection where there is possibility that low memory or low resource could be a problem, because if it only fails on some phones of a model type.

Has you application past all the "Nokia Test Criteria for Symbian C++ Applications v1.1"

    http://www.forum.nokia.com/info/sw.n..._1_en.pdf.html

In this series of tests is the Low Memory Tool test which limits memory and then therefore any memory leaks will after repeated running of program will cause a failure.

I've had this problem too. It turned out that Some of the APIs I was using (from 3rd Ed FP1) were not available on my 3rd Ed MR1 device. The app installed fine, but when I clicked it, nothing happened (not even an error msg).

Commenting out certain FP1-specific calls and rebuilding made everything ok.
You will have to pain-stakingly identify which call is the offender and remove it.

There was no 3rd ed. FP1 that time. Also note the device-list:
    - OK: 3250, N80
    - Fail: N80(!), N91

Make sure you are building with the MR release SDK and NOT the FP1 SDK.

That is normally the case with device specific crashes.
Also make sure they are using the latest ROM images from the nokia update site
