    Hi Ashish
As far as I know you can not do it with J2ME.

Re: Support for JSR 253 API on Various Handset

    hi Ashish,

there is at least one device (not Nokia though) which has support for that API already:
    http://www.j2mepolish.org/devices/de...phony-api.html

its quite new api and not yet widely implemented,
JavaOne 2005 api presentation by Siemens/Motorola teams:
    http://developers.sun.com/learning/j...y/TS-7634.html

there is no other way to trap incoming calls in Java, simply midlet is not current, eg. in Canvas hideNotify is called when user sees upcoming call system alert, (hideNotify/isShown, etc),

    hth,
    regards,
    Peter

Re: Support for JSR 253 API on Various Handset

I find it extremely unlikely that A780 supports JSR-253. The device was approved by FCC in 2004 and the JSR-253 was finalized only this year. I think j2mepolish is incorrect in this regard.

To my knowledge there is not a single device yet on the market which supports this JSR

    Harrti,

You are right. As always it is very hard to find the details of the software stack on a specific model (Nokia is in that respect far better then M let alone B..q). J2Mepolish uses a non standard way of refering to API's. No JSR mentioned. This severly limits the use. The mentioned telephony api is some legacy propritary api from Motorola.
What the J2ME development community really needs is a registry with phone models detailing the available API's and updated by the mobile phone manufacturers. Also J2ME application providers can then refer to the models in this registry to state compatibilty. Who would be the leading party to host such a registry? A kind of standardization organization like ETSI / 3GPP?

Any news from Nokia on JSR 253? I've got a great application in mind with this API and I am dying to get my hands on it. Would there be a RI or SDK where it becomes available first so I can test my application?

Milé, no news on JSR-253 at this point. Unfortunately it is not included in JSR-248, which is one of our priorities for the future.

Sorry for not helping you more,

    hi Milé,

that's fragmentation issues is the main reason of introducing JSR-248 which Hartti mentioned - nokia is one of founders and leader,
    so let's keep fingers crossed

    Hi All,
I am also working in a J2ME project, where I want to trap the call (JSR 253), I would like to know which device (Nokia, Motorola or any other device) supports MTA (JSR 253). Can we play a sound while call is on?

    Thanks in advance.

Shivendra, situation has not changed during the three months which have passed since the previous messages on this thread. There is no Nokia device yet which supports JSR-253.
I cannot speak on behalf of other manufacturers, but I have not heard of any phones out yet with that JSR.

    I have a similar task.
Something has changed with jsr 253 support on the handset? I know about only one mobile phone which can use it - Motorola A780. Is there more handets which support jsr 253?

At least from Nokia, no there is not.
And to educate myself: are you sure A780 supports JSR-253 (see my reasoning above)?

Re: Support for JSR 253 API on Various Handset

    Hello gauravwable,

unfortunately JSR-253 is not supported by Nokia devices.

The only way for initiating calls in using platformRequest for the purpose as described on the Java Developer's Library:
Java Developer's Library 3.10 > Developer's guides > Invoking applications > Invoking applications in Java ME:
    http://library.developer.nokia.com/i...5804C9163.html

Unfortunately there is no API or method to handle coming call events in Nokia devices. When a call comes the system will always override the running Java MIDlet and put it on background until the call ends.
