The very first Augmented Reality application on mobile phones!

Hi! I proudly announce that the very first AR application is out for mobile phones! With 'Virtual Sculpture Project' you can conjure a 3D sculpture onto your desktop with your phone. Try it for free and get more info at http://virtual.extra.hu.

These screenshots show the view of the virtual sculpture according to the spatial position of the phone:

    Hi, Tukora,

very interesting application! I have tested it on Nokia N73. Here are my observations:
    1. Technically it does work, but I cannot see the sculpture, because it is hidden beneath camera viewfinder. Maybe there is some workaround? Screen resolution of this phone is 240x320, and the viewfinder occupies upper half of the screen.
    2. It is slow. One frame takes ~3s. Perhaps because of slow camera autofocus, I don't know. What is performance of N70? Can you measure it in fps?
    3. After some time (1 minute or so) application closes with error message "Camera malfunction".
    4. Haven't you considered using Symbian C++ instead of Java2ME? It should be faster and more reliable for real time image processing.

    Hi!
It works fine on N70 and 6680, the FPS is about 2 frames/second. I chose Java2ME because this application was created for an open-air sculpture exhibition and I wanted it to be able to run on as many models as possible. (It works on really cheep phones very well, but a little slower).

    hi Tukora

I have tested the virtual sculpture project on my N70 device and it works very well. The application is an excellent piece of augmented reality. It would be great help if you share your code or the J2me API's you used in this application.

    thanks in advance...
