    SIP - register before send/receive?

    Hello,

using SIP on real mobiles. Do you i have to register a user before sending or receiving any messages?

From the nokia SIP examples i still haven't understood how receiving works. Seems like all examples are listening on a port for all messages and not only message which are addressed to the user with should receive them.

    I understand that

    sip:*;type=\"application/test\"

means, that the SipServerConnectionListener is listening for all messages which belong to the application test.

Ok, let's say i have several users and i don't want all message but only the messages which belong to me.

    How do i realize that?

Re: SIP - register before send/receive?

    Hi Sebastian,

From what I understand, you'll need to register first before you can send/receive messages. Registration is required for the SIP registrar to maintain a mapping of the handsets' contact addresses and their SIP addresses, so that the proxy can forward SIP requests/responses to the right handsets thereafter. (you may read rfc 3261 for more details)

Well, once your registration is done properly, you'll be able to receive messages only from people who intend to send it to you. So you'll not need to worry about receiving messages from unintended senders.

I'm only beginner in JSR180, maybe other experts can correct me where I'm wrong.
