    3rd Edition Hello World Console App

    Hi,

    I have an E70 and am trying to start getting into developing some applications for it.

    I have installed the 3rd edition SDK along with Perl.

    I would like to know if there is anywhere that explains how to get a basic console "hello world" application running without using external tools like Visual Studio / CodeWarrior / Carbide / etc. I would like to do this with a command-line build so it will also compile correctly in Cygwin.

    So far I have created the following files :

    01-HelloWorld.cpp
    Code:
    #include "CommonFramework.h"

    // do the example
    LOCAL_C void doExampleL()
    {
       _LIT(KHelloWorldText,"Hello world!\n");
       console->Printf(KHelloWorldText);
    }
    01-HelloWorld.mmp
    Code:
    TARGET 01-HelloWorld.exe
    TARGETTYPE exe
    UID 0
    //
    SOURCEPATH .
    SOURCE 01-HelloWorld.cpp
    //
    USERINCLUDE .
    USERINCLUDE ..\CommonFramework
    SYSTEMINCLUDE Epoc32include
    //
    LIBRARY euser.lib
    bld.inf
    Code:
    PRJ_MMPFILES
    //only one project
    01-HelloWorld.mmp
    I get the following when running bldmake :
    Code:
    C:\Symbian\Progs\01-HelloWorld>bldmake bldfiles
    WARNING: Cannot determine the version of the RVCT Compiler.
    WARNING: When building for ARMV5 platform Compiler RVCT2.2 or later is required.
    Once the abld.bat file has been created, I run "abld build armi urel"
    I get the following error message :
    Code:
    This project does not support platform, build or program "ARMI"
    Can anyone provide any insight into this problem?

    Thanks a lot

    Re: 3rd Edition Hello World Console App

    Hi,

    Sorry, I see I have posted this in the Java section rather than the C++ section. I have tried deleting it but it won't work. Is it possible to have it moved to the C++ section?

    Thanks.

    Using commandline is explained in the SDK Help (found from Windows Start) perhaps you should start there?

    Note that 3.0 does not have an ARMI target but instead a GCCE one and that you also need the GCCE tools chain (Help is again helpful) to build for that target.

    If you are in anyway interested in your own productivity, still recommend that you check out Carbide, with that you would most likely have been running on the phone already..
