Re: private certificate & developer certificate

Private certificate is about confirming that you have issued a given content (a .sis file for example).
Developer certificate is totally different: it confirms that Symbian/Nokia/etc. has allowed you to install and run applications having some stronger capabilities on a pre-defined, limited set of devices.

@Barry2006, could you please re-explain your question? What do you mean by "private certificate"? Which file is that? What do you mean by "legal power"?

Re: private certificate & developer certificate

The developer certificate from Symbian Signed allows you to install an application on a 3rd edition device.

Even if you built your own certificate using makekeys you will have to get an developer certificate from Symbian Signed to sign your application. Using a makekeys-created certificate you will be able to create a developer cesrtificate that will allow your application to install on the device with the specified IMEI (one IMEI allowed in tis case)

Go to www.symbiansigned.com, create an user account if you don;t have one, and then request an developer certificate.
    https://www.symbiansigned.com/app/ba...uestupload.jsp

You will also need the DevCertRequest tool to create your .csr file to request the devcert. Download it from: https://www.symbiansigned.com/DevCer..._2006_v1.8.exe

Install the DevCertRequest tool on your machine, and using your private certificate generated with makekeys create the csr file for the IMEI you are willing to use.

You will find more details about how to create you own developer certificate in the DevCertRequest tool help.
