I want to port an application from 2nd edition to 3rd edition. When I compile with abld build gcce udeb command I obtain an exe, but in the gcce\udeb folder.
I want to install my app on the emulator, so i compile with the command line abld build winscw udeb and i obtain these errors (to obtain an exe in winscw\udeb folder):

    Code:
WARNING: Cannot determine the version of the RVCT Compiler.
ERROR: Unable to identify a valid CodeWarrior for Symbian OS installation
    make: *** [MAKEFILEMOBIFINDIT_3RD] Error 255
    What does this error mean...?

I add that i work with visual C++ 2003. With the hellobasicworld example, all is ok when i compile in visual studio but it doesn't work with command line (same errors...).

Re: Compilation series 60 3rd edition

    hi asmobease,

RVCT tool is for compiling for armv5 which has to be taken through a license from www.arm.com but not conventional developers of symbian a free GNu Compiler GCCE is provided for building applications for 3rd edition devices..

THe RVCT error is just a warning which u can ignore...

Hope this will clear u better....

    use the following commands:
    from ur helloworld group folder
    bldmake bldfiles
abld build wins/winscw udeb //depends on which IDE u use
abld build gcce udeb //used only for on device debugging not necessary for making a sis
abld build gcce urel // used for creating .exe of ur application...

Thumbs up Re: Compilation series 60 3rd edition

    Hello asmobease,

I think i might have faced the same problem.
    Not remembering exactly.

It may be the case of Environment Variables.
    Path Setting.

For a chance, can u restart yr machine?
    It may solve yr problem.

    Regards.
    Kiran.

Re: Compilation series 60 3rd edition

Usually "This project does not support platform, build or programs "WINS"" message is displayed when WINS is not specified as a supported platform in the bld.inf file. Try adding the following lines to your bld.inf file and rebuilding your project from command line:

    Code:
    PRJ_PLATFORMS
    WINS
    WINSCW
    GCCE
    ARMV5

Re: Compilation series 60 3rd edition

I modify my bld.inf file and i obtain:

    Code:
    C:\codeMobifindit\mobifindit3rdEdition\Findit\Findit\group>bldmake bldfiles
EPOCROOT environment variable must be capitalised
    BEGIN failed--compilation aborted at C:\Symbian\9.1\S60_3rd\epoc32\tools\/E32env.pm line 52.
Compilation failed in require at C:\Symbian\9.1\S60_3rd\\epoc32\tools\bldmake.pl line 28.
    BEGIN failed--compilation aborted at C:\Symbian\9.1\S60_3rd\\epoc32\tools\bldmake.pl line 28.
what does "EPOCROOT environment variable must be capitalised" mean and how to make that?

Maybe I must include new path in my EPOC variable?

    Thanks!

This is a known problem related to environment variables as kiran10182 mentioned. Check this thread:

Re: Compilation series 60 3rd edition

Forget WINS, S60 SDKs do not support WINS target starting from 2nd edition FP3.
Also try not setting EPOCROOT, since it usually creates confusion. Use 'devices' command to set and check active SDK, although it is not a problem according to your very first post in this thread.
Focus on "ERROR: Unable to identify a valid CodeWarrior for Symbian OS installation", that is the real cause.

Yes, I agree with you. I try to solve this error with the installation of codeWarrior but it doesn't work... Have you got an idea??
    Thanks!
