    Exclamation E50 / user-agent / WML support / problem

    Hello,

I have "a few" problems with this phone ...

    1. The USER-AGENT header seems to change when accessing different content:
    [13/Sep/2006:16:10:21 +0100] "GET /a.jad HTTP/1.1" 200 325 "-" "Mozilla/5.0 (SymbianOS/9.1; U; en-us) AppleWebKit/413 (KHTML, like Gecko) Safari/413 es50"
    [13/Sep/2006:16:11:08 +0100] "GET /a.jar HTTP/1.1" 200 22455 "-" "NokiaE50-1/3.0 (06.27.1.0) SymbianOS/9.1 Series60/3.0 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1"

    2. Even though UAProf (http://nds.nokia.com/uaprof/NE50-1r100.xml) states so, browser DOES NOT support text/vnd.wap.wml - returns "Unsupported content type" (and there's no explicit text/vnd.wap.wml in the ACCEPT header)

    3. How on earth am I supposed to identify this handset using the first stated UA? What if Nokia changes the es50 string (which IMO is the only thing that is unique) in the next software release? Oh, and there's no X-WAP-PROFILE or PROFILE in the headers.

    4. What was wrong in setting this device's UA to the form that was used e.g. in Communicator series:
    "Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 5.0; Series80/2.0 Nokia9500/4.34.0 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1)" ?

The handset I have for testing purposes is:
    V 06.27.1.0
    10-07-2006
    RM-170
    Nokia E50
sw customized for Polish network Plus (Polkomtel)

TIA for any clues ... because I'm stuck here.

    HiPek.

    Re: E50 / user-agent / WML support / problem

The answer to the first question is that there are two browsers in the device. Web (with the first user-agent header) and WAP (with the second header).

I am getting a little on thin ground here but...
    2. The Web browser does not support that format but if you try to access with the WAP browser, that format is supported.
