Deployment process for a Flash Lite app

    Hi There,

I am a flash developer and this is my very first Flash app for
mobiles using FlashLite 1.1. I would be really grateful if someone
can guide me on how to deploy this for mobile phones.

Like we do it for normal web applications I have created an xhtml
page and have embedded SWF in it; but when i tested it on Nokia 6600
the content was not being displayed.
    (URL: http://70.85. 246.10:8001/ xhtmlcatalog/ flash.html)

So, do we need to always target the SWFs directly like:
    http://70.85. 246.10:8001/ xhtmlcatalog/ xhtmlcatalog. swf
or if not, what is the general trend for deployment?

I know its a very-very basic question but since i m new for mobile
app development, any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks,
    Siraj Khan

Re: Deployment process for a Flash Lite app

The 6600 has no built-in support whatsoever for Flash-Lite (any version).

You must first get and install Flash-Lite 1.1 from Adobe/Macromedia (if there happens to exist an S60 2nd Edition/S60 2.0 version in the first place).

Secondly, the 6600 browser (even if you installed Flash-Lite) does not support embedded Flash-Lite content on web pages.

You could consider creating a SIS package that installs your .swf file to some accessible location.

    Ciao

as petrib already mention the 6600 does support FL but not in the browser.

Your target devices should be all Nokia 3rd edtion which are Flash Lite 1.1 enabled and have FL1.1 in the WAP browser.

Soon there will be Nokia 3rd edtion feature pack 1 with FL2 standalobe and with the FL2 in the S60 Browser version 2.

Re: Deployment process for a Flash Lite app

    hi Siraj,

watch Adobe website for supported devices:
    http://www.adobe.com/mobile/supporte.../handsets.html
    check for: standalone/browser/standby/wallpaper/user interface keys,

adding something to Allesandro: S40 3rdEd FP1 devices will have FL2 (guessing standalone/browser) - see "Multimedia" section:
    http://europe.nokia.com/A4193002
    (upcoming device)

    regards,
    Peter

Small correction. Series 40 3rd Edition Feature Pack 1 devices have Flash 1.1. For example 6131, 6151, 6233,... are such devices.
6085 is in fact Feature Pack 2 device (similarly as 5300) and they will have Flash Lite 2

Re: Deployment process for a Flash Lite app

    Ciao

I would like to point out couple of things:

the N-Series site does not mention Flash Lite in any of the phones!
the other thing is that it would be great to have the same Flash Lite implementation accross the Nokia series. What I mean is that FL is implemented to execture as Wallpapers, Screensaver, Sub-LCD, Browser and Standalobe.

It would be great to have both S40 and S60 be able to support all these. This way Flash Lite fragmentation would be minimal!

    Any thouhgts?

Thanks Alessando for pointing that nseries tech spec issue. I'll suggest them to add that info.

Sure, having every device behave the same way would be excellent and the development teams are keenly aware of this and we are working closely with Adobe on this. As the platforms are quite different, and have different hardware capabilities (etc.) that is not always feasible, even though the implementations are as identical as possible.
