    document:
J2ME and Symbian OS: A Platform Comparison
    Forum Nokia ©2003 Nokia

A comparison of the capabilities of J2ME MIDlets and Symbian OS native applications; a guide for developers seeking to determine which platform best suits the application they wish to develop.

    File: J2ME_Symbian_OS_1_01.pdf
    Size: 66.2 kb
    Version: 1.0
    Released: 17-Feb-03

    address on microjava:
    http://www.microjava.com/nokia/docum...ontent_id=6369

the "download" link does not work, I searched the document on forum Nokia but couldn't find it, does anyone know where can I find it? I anxiously need it as I'm writing an academic report.

    Re: Where is this document???

I think that document has gotten too out-dated, so it has been removed.

In short (people can probably ship in with more comments)
    Pros for Java ME
    - huge amount of devices out on the market (much more Java capable phones than Symbian phones)
    - easier to get up to speed (Symbian C++ has steep learning curve)
    - free tools and SDKs (well, this is true for Symbian C++ too to some extent)

    Pros for Symbian
    - native access to hw and platfoirm features (Java is for example lacking inbox access, phone call handling, no auto start during booting the phone..)
    - no virtual machine, so faster execution

Hmmm.. if you really want to see that document, it is archived in the internet archive (thanks to Brewster Kahle!)
