    Certificate validity duration

I am self-signing my application. Makekeys generates certificates that are valid for one year. The phone refuses to install applications with expired certificates. How can I generate keys that are valid for longer than a year?

How long are Symbian signed certificates valid for?

I think developer cert only valid for one year. You can change your phone system time to that valid period for testing purpose.

I'm self signing, not using a developer certificate. I'd like the software we sell to still install in a years time without the users needing to change their phone's date.

You have to go through symbian signing for all symbain 3.0 applications.

You can self-sign S60 3rd applications without going through Symbian Signed. I've been doing that for several months now. See http://discussion.forum.nokia.com/fo...ad.php?t=83329.

My question is how to get a certificate that last longer than a year?

If the answer is Symbian Signing, how long does the certificate used last for?

There is a thread on the Symbian discussion forum dealing with this here, and it suggested using OpenSSL. I eventually followed these instructions to create a certificate for self-signing that lasts as long as you would like it to.

I think this should be fixed urgently because it is a disaster waiting to happen when people find out, in a few months time, that they can no longer install the self-signed 3rd Edition application downloads they purchased because the certificates have expired.
