    System.out.println

I've seen several examples where exception catching/debug messages are written to System.out.println (or System.debug.println).

I was wondering, where do these actually appear in practice. Even in the emulator I don't see them show up on the shell. Is there are a better, more obvious, alternative?

    Thanks

    Re: System.out.println

With the emulator they should appear on the output window/shell. How are you running your emulator?

On the phones themselves it varies. On some phones you have no way of seeing this output, and other phones have different techniques to allow that (Sony Ericssons with on-device debugging will send the output over the cable/bluetooth/IR, UIQ Symbian phones have an application called redirect.sis that can capture the output into a file/separate application, etc.).

    Re: System.out.println

Right - I was just running the emulator from the command line, which looks to spawn a new processes (thereby detaching from the cmd line, surpressing output) - running the 'ol epox.exe

actually i tried running the emulator from eclipse, but it doesnt seem to like it when I recompile, repackage and choose start emulator (just sits there for ages until crashes). I'm guessing if you run it via carbide.j in eclipse it dumps it back to the IDE?
