reading text from a GUI-Dialog (Screenreader)

    Hi all,

i would like to know the text of dialogs that are presented by other applications to the user (the foremost window). My intention is to have my software react on specific texts.

This is what ordinary screenreader software does (see the talks software for the visually disabled).

Currently we do this by grapical screen access and somewhat match the content of the bitmap to known text strings. This is ugly and timeconsuming.

Is there a better way to get the content of GUI-Dialogs?

I have posted the same question some time ago on NewLC, but got no answer yet. I am very thankful for any hints!

    Best Regards, Marcel

not 100% sure, but I would assume that only way to get access to the text buffers of all system components would be implementing the access control inside a FEP, which then would also need to implement all other FEP functionalities, as well as users would need to have set the FEP on before it would be usefull.

Anyway, might be an idea to look into, FEPs has been discussed here plenty of many times, as well as there are some documentations and example applications that you could find more information.

    Hi,

I do not think that it is possible to get access to views/dialogs of other apps because they run in different processes.
Though you can determine what app is currently on top, what view of this app is displayed at the moment and get this view's caption.

Hope this helps you a bit...

FEPs can do this definetely, also you could have the abc/pen menu to have then an option that would go reading the texts in currently selected text editor field.
