    Alternate mediaplayers

Everybody knows that the mediaplayer coming with most nokia phones (Mine being a 6280) is rather limited in features, so I am looking for a better one to replace it, if possible.

What I'm looking for is just a bit more extended one, with more features including:

    * Remembering where you are in the song, when you close the mp3 player (Not the awkward seeking, stopping thing, never seems to work correctly)
    * A way to seek through the song in a better way than holding down the seek button and look at it only take 5 seconds at a time. This can be a pain, with larger mp3s, where it didn't save the position (Look above)
    * A way to actually let it add subfolders as well, so it can still be a bit sorted.
    * A way to change track from the headset (If possible) and pause it.

Does this sort of thing even exist or is it just a silly dream?

    Re: Alternate mediaplayers

Probably not easy to realize on a 6280 where only J2ME (Java) apps are possible (like on any other S40 based device).

On S60 based devices it is easier, and there are already several different video and audio players available.

    Two examples:
    OggPlay: http://symbianoggplay.sourceforge.net/index.html
    SmartMovie: http://www.lonelycatgames.com

For others, you can search the application catalogs on, e.g., my-symbian.com:
    S60 1.*-2.*: http://my-symbian.com/s60/software/index.php
    S60 3.*: http://my-symbian.com/s60v3/software/index.php
    S80: http://my-symbian.com/s80/software/index.php

That's what I thought, but I had read a bit about the possibility of creating a proper player with J2ME.

Guess I'm stuck with this randomly-crashing-media-player.

trillex, thanks for your feedback on the media player, I'll send this to the development team.
Usually the Java ME is not supporting all the media types and protocols which the native platform is supporting. Hence, developing a "better" JavaME player might not be possible. A definite answer requires some more thought and digging some information.
