    Thumbs down AllFiles-TCB -UnExpected

    Hello,

I have some doubts and questions with AllFiles and TCB capabilities.

Let me clear from my point of view.
I just want to test on only one phone(one IMEI). I don't want to purchase ACS Publisher ID right now. And I don't want to pay for Manufaturer's capabilities right now.
I am going to have developer certificate for other required capabilities(except AllFiles and TCB-as they are not supported without manufacture's capabilities+ACS Publisher's ID)

    Now it goes here:
    Suppose:

In my application, i want to hide my application's icon from the phone on particular event, say on SMS arrival, on phone call ,etc.. any particluar sort of event which belongs to my application.
    Now the SDK help says:
    \resource
Read-only resource files shared by (potentially) all applications.
Applications without any capabilities can read these files.
Tcb capability required to modify the \resource contents.
The Software installer adds and updates these files, but not anything else.
In earlier versions i was able to do it with changing some attributes of my file from the system\apps\.... But in 3rd edition there are lot many problems even if i want to modify my own file attributes.

    So my questions are:
    1) Can't i process with my own file for genuine reason?
    2) How much it will cost for manufacturer's capabilites? Any clue.
    3) Do you have any other solution to hide my application's icon on particular event?

Please help me. I am stuck here.
Any pointers, help will be greatly appreciated....

    Thanks.......
    Waiting for your replies............

When you say hide you application, do you mean from the application menu or from the task list?

    Hello Paul,

    Thanks for the reply.
I meant to say, hiding from Application Menu.
    Not from task list.

I doubt that it would be possible under OS 9.x

You could possibly get a devcert with all files to test it but getting it out to release would be a whole other problem.

The problem is that getting this level of manufacturer capability is extremely difficult and requires a very close business relationship with Nokia.

The other thing to realize is that the registration resource files are now handled by a dedicated server so need to be put into an import directory to be processed by the application server.

I would suggest you think carefully about how to proceed on this as getting all files is a very difficult task, especially if you do not have a close relationship with Nokia or are not a very large multinational company.

Well, I understand your problem but I fail to see the genuine reason The scope of Platform Security is not to prevent you from accessing your files (i.e. those stored in your apps' data cage) but to stop you from touching files that are not yours. As always, with benefits there would be some drawbacks too ... you should get used with the idea that once a file placed in a system protected directory is no longer your file...

There is no extra cost involved for getting the manufacturer granted capabilities. You need of course to have a valid ACS Publisher ID but that is a different story. But most of all you need to have a genuine reason ... Your "I want to" is not going to be enough. Try "I need to", followed by a decent explanation...

"Where there’s a will, there’s a way" ... at least so they say

    Hello,

    To Itomuta,
When i want to play with my own files, then there is everything to be genuine. I don't want to tamper with other files in the Sys/Bin.
And as far as Manufaturer's capability is concerned, "i want" is included in "I need". So there is no question of decency.
    Thanks for the complete information.
