    Strange Issue with MultimediaDD capability!!!

    Hello All,

    Till now I believed that:

    If a function of a classe is documented to be requiring a Capability, then the .mmp file must have the capability, otherwise the function would not work, or it will crash.

    But to my surprise I found an instance where this is not true!

    For example: the following function is supposed to require: capability MultimediaDD

    CVideoPlayerUtility::NewL(MVideoPlayerUtilityObserver &,TInt,TMdaPriorityPreference,RWsSession &,CWsScreenDevice &,RWindowBase &,const TRect &,const TRect &);{}

    But I have been calling the same function without using the MultimediaDD in the .mmp file and even the utility is working fine on the device!!

    Some Symbian expert please let me know if this is the expected behaviour or a bug?!!!

    regards,
    Bharat

    Hello Bharat,

    This is what SDK help says.
    NewL()
    Capability: MultimediaDD For applications that do not have the MultimediaDD capability, any supplied priority level (aPriority) or priority preference (aPref) will be ignored.

    static IMPORT_C CVideoPlayerUtility *NewL(MVideoPlayerUtilityObserver &aObserver, TInt aPriority, TMdaPriorityPreference aPref, RWsSession &aWs, CWsScreenDevice &aScreenDevice, RWindowBase &aWindow, const TRect &aScreenRect, const TRect &aClipRect);
    Regards.

    hi bharath_hegde,

    the api is well documented ,
    Capability: MultimediaDD For applications that do not have the MultimediaDD capability, any supplied priority level (aPriority) or priority preference (aPref) will be ignored.
    Wht it means is that we ur setting the priority for the CVideoPlayerUtility which is application specific , it will need MultiMediaDD capability and for rest without priority will work as in ur case..

    Hope this might clear you,

    Thanks and Regards,

    Hello,

    Thanks for the information. I get the point.

    But, atleast in the S60 3rd Edition SDK, I don't find any reference to the text you mentioned. (I am looking at the page describing CVideoPlayerUtility )

    May be the text you mentioned is present in S60 3rd Edition _MR or further releases! ( I have not tried installing these )

    regards,
    Bharat

    You are right. I have quoted it from the 3rd Edition _MR SDK help.

    CVideoPlayerUtility::NewL requires MultimediaDD only if you raise the player priority.
