    void CWlanTest:: ListNetworksAndSignalL(CDesCArraySeg& aNetworks)

    {

    _LIT(KNetInfo, "Network: %S\tSignal: %d");

    TBuf<32> netName;

    TBuf<100> line;

    RConnectionMonitor monitor;

    TPckgBuf pkgNetworks;

    // establish connection with the monitor server

    monitor.ConnectL();

    // prepare leave clean-up

    CleanupClosePushL(monitor);

    TRequestStatus status;

    // get the list of available networks

    monitor.GetPckgAttribute(EBearerIdWLAN, 0, KNetworkNames, pkgNetworks, status);

    // suspend thread until the info is retrieved

    // production code should use active objects

    User::WaitForRequest( status ) ;

    // leave if the asynchronous method returned an error

    User::LeaveIfError(status.Int());

    // reset networks list

    aNetworks.Reset();

    // add retrieved networks to the list

    for(TUint i=0; i
    {

    netName.Copy(pkgNetworks().iNetwork[i].iName);

    line.Format(KNetInfo, &netName, pkgNetworks().iNetwork[i].iSignalStrength);

    aNetworks.AppendL(line);

    }

    // close server session

    CleanupStack::PopAndDestroy(&monitor);

    }

    Re: How to get Access Point's Mac address?

    AFAIK there are no public API's to get the MAC details..u can get information related to the AP using that code though..but MAC is something which i am not sure on.

    BTW what is the kind of work u r attempting..why would u need the MAC address?

    Cheers

    Question Re: How to get Access Point's Mac address?

    Though there might not be any API to get MAC address of AP, is it possible to preserve the complete packet data broadcast from AP for analyzing and extracting the information that I need?

    Try this new page.

    http://www.forum.nokia.com/Technical...AC_address.htm

    "The following code demonstrates how to list all network interfaces and retrieve the hardware (MAC) address for a WLAN interface, if one is found."

    Hi! Ron,

    You give a really good lead to us!

    It said "list all network interfaces". Does it mean all network devices including Access Points around the environment?

    Trial using this code shows it only lists the MAC address of the smartphone.

    Regards,

    Re: How to get Access Point's Mac address?

    Thanks a lot, mayankkedia, Nokia Ron. In this example-- http://www.forum.nokia.com/Technical...AC_address.htm. I only can get MAC address of cellphone. But I want to get all the access point device's MAC address and RSSI. Up to present, what I can get is just only network name (SSID) and RSSI for each SSID and I have try for a long time. If there is any way to get this information or the broadcast packet from access point devices please let me know. Or if you sure there is no way to get such information from APIs which have been published, please let me know too. Thanks a lot.

    I also need to be able to get the access point's MAC address - also known as the "BSSID". Anyone who knows how to read the BSSID of the current access point - I'd very much appreciate this.

    AFAIK the easiest way is to enter the routers interface to see its MAC address. I am totally unexperienced in C+++ and how to execute the script Ron gave the link to . Does the quoted script have to be assembled ?
    How do you run such scripts on my E 61 for example ?

    Hi there,

    over and over again.... sorry for posting this, but I would be most grateful too if
    someone could help us ... I would also appreciate very much a reference/docs whatsoever
    where we can find somthing about this issue. (i.e. information available from the surrounding Access Points
    such as MAC and/or IP addr.)

    hey guys, this shouldn't be a big deal ..., let us solve this problem together?

    many thanks in advance,
    Lucca

    I also require this information for my application. Does anyone know why the Symbian designers created such a convoluted database system to find out about such a basic networking parameter? Why make such an overcomplicated system?

    If they want Symbian to be taken seriously as a "open" development environment they can't hide networking values away in databases and document the access in manuals that only the privileged inner circle of licenced developers can access.

    It almost makes the Windows CE support manuals look good.
