    Newbie

    Hi,

I'm beginner in Symbian C++. I'm using S60 3rd Edition SDK for Symbian OS, FP1, and Carbide C++ v1.1 to create C++ applications.
I'm having problems to start EXE applications from command line and to run these applications on the real phone. I tried to follow the steps below to create my exe file:

1 . Folder structure and files:
    C:/SymbianCode/HelloWorld/
    - HelloWorld.cpp
    - HelloWorld.mmp
    - bld.inf

    2. In the command line, I type:
    bldmake bldfiles

    3. Now I have the abld.bat so I type the command: abld build gcce urel

    4. I switch in command line prompt to C:\Symbian\9.2\S60_3rd_FP1\Epoc32\release\GCCE\UREL folder so I tried to run the application in the prompt and I receive an undefined error.

    My questions are:
    - If I type abld build wins urel I receive the error: this project does not support platform, build or program 'wins'. Why?
    - How to create exe 'servers' in the new Carbide? Is there any tutorial about it?
    - How to run 'exe' applications via prompt on Nokia Emulator with the new Symbian SDK ?
    - How to run the application on the phone? I tried to run these application via FileExplorer app and nothing happened.

    Best Regards,

    Question Re: Newbie

Hi, thanks for the faster reply. I made the HelloWorld example but when I did transfer the application to the phone nothing happened. How is the process to build an application to a target handset? Do I need to download the specific SDK to the phone?

    I'm a bit confused.

    Regards,
If you are working on Carbide.C++, you just need to change your build configuration to Release Build. you would get .Sis file, which will be indentified by your phone to be installed.
Also refer to the Carbide help.

    Re: Newbie

    Hi,

I'm working with command line tools and Carbide C++. I use Carbide only to edit files, because don't have a way to create an empty project.

    My reformulated question is:
My application released to Symbian 7.0 OS can run in Symbian 9.2 OS without any changes and new builds?

    Thanks for the reply.

    Re: Newbie

You need to port your application from 2.0 to 3.0.

There is a complete binary break between pre v9 and v9 onwards.
New platform security features have been introduced from version 9.
So the application you have created in v7.0 won't run in v9.2.

    Refer to the following link:

    All the best.

do you mean that the application won't run at all or is it about the installer only?

sorry, bit of a n00b question, but i guess it was the right thread
so, if i create an .app using a s60 version 1 SDK, will it run on a newer version without requiring to create it using another SDK version (apart from the installer on v9.x)? is there a bit of backward compatibility i mean..

    thanks

It's backward compatible in this case too. Some API's might get deprecated to work with newer versions. So the Application built for lower version may not work with newer one and vice-versa. This is all what i m saying about pre v9.
