I can't understand how UIQ hanldes JAR files: there are some JAR which are intened for being INSTALLED, others for being STARTED (like an application); in what do they differ? I guess jython jar is "startable"... but how can I start it???
ok, I found how to start it.
But now I need to know which is the Main Class of the whole Jython package! How can I know it? It is required to specifiy the command line to store in the .txt file that, associated with .aif and .app (created with aifbuilder) allows starting a .jar.

    Re: Python for UIQ

UIQ support PersonalJava that seem ~ Java1.1.8
,so Jython (J Python) can run on UIQ
,but somehow it error to run jython.jar.
You need to install jython on your PC and extract jython.jar into folder package
    ,before put it to UIQ.

And You need JythonConsole in awt-version(J4SP.py)
    you can D/L (J4SP.py+Jython) here...
    http://www.smart-mobile.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=98932

Program JRun in JCompile APP. make it easy to run .class-file in UIQ
(no need .sis , .aif) only set JRun.txt
    -cp C:\jython -Dpython.home=C:\jython org.python.util.jython C:\jython\j4sp.py
    http://www.freepoc.org/software.php

I try to figure out how to make it in easy step...
    Happy New Year 2007...

    Re: Python for UIQ

Does documentation for Series60 apply to Jython for UIQ?

I'm especially interested on this sentence...:
The Python for S60 Platform (Python for S60) simplifies application development and provides a scripting
solution for the Symbian C++ APIs. This
In other words, can I use Jython to access Contacts, SMS, Calendar,... ?

how can I use S60 python modules on my UIQ phone?
After installinh Jython, if I try "import sysinfo" I get "ImportError: no module named sysinfo" error. Are "modules" single files I can just copy into my phone?

No, you can't use Python for S60 modules in Jython. They are two completely separate pieces of software.

    Re: Python for UIQ

    Thx, that link works fine.

    I have another problem, here:
    since I own a Motorola A1000, jRunP800.SIS doesn't work, here
I assume that jRun is just a console redirecting io, isn't it?
If thats right, do you know any other apps I could use (sorry, I got my phone on christmas, so I'm very new to that topic )?

    thx in advance

    Re: Python for UIQ

jRun is used for exec. PersonalJava in UIQ,
    with option in jRun.txt.
    Option in jRun.txt for Jython(in D:\jython\) is

    -cp D:\jython -Dpython.home=D:\jython org.python.util.jython D:\jython\awtcons.py

If someone can make .sis for UIQ,
that can call PersonalJava with these option,
that will be great.(But I cannot do that.)
    No need jRun anymore.

Jython for UIQ is the same as Jython2.1 on PC.(in no .jar preparation),
all I do is spacified Python.home,
and add file awtcons.py(AWT console for Jython).

But if you can write Jython(Python app. that can call java class),
you can write your own Jython app.(such as myapp.py),
and place it in D:\jython\ (so it will be D:\jython\myapp.py).
In that way,You need jRun to run it.
(change last option in jRun.txt in to D:\jython\myapp.py)

(Feel free for read code in awtcons.py for study,You may be make it beter version.)

what do you mean? I HAVE an a1000 too, and jRunP800.SIS WORKS fine!
Once you installed jRunp800.sis, replace file \system\apps\jRun.txt with the one you found in .rar package.
Then start jRun from application list.
WAIT AT LEAST 20 SECONDS for jython to be loaded!!

If someone can make .sis for UIQ,
I can easily build a .SIS file to INSTALL jython on UIQ phone, containing the needed .AIF file which allows STARTING jython from applications list just like any other application.

If it's ok for you, I'll prepare such a file, and I'll also set up a little web page with a few explanations and obviously a link to the just born "Jython for UIQ"

Can the current .rar file be considered an ultimate and stable version anybody can use?
