    Exclamation j2me and video recording

    Ciao folks,
    is RecordControl a good solution to record a live video?
    I explain the question: can RecordControl record a live video from camera?

    I post some code:
    public void recordVideo()
    {
    try
    {
    //Create a Player that captures live audio.
    //Player p = Manager.createPlayer("capture://audio");
    //p.realize();
    // Get the RecordControl, set the record stream,
    // start the Player and record for 5 seconds.
    rc = (RecordControl)player.getControl("RecordControl");
    output = new ByteArrayOutputStream();
    rc.setRecordStream(output);
    rc.startRecord();
    //player.start();
    Thread.currentThread().sleep(5000);
    //rc.commit();
    //player.close();
    }
    //catch (IOException ioe) {}
    //catch (MediaException me) {}
    catch (Exception ie) { }
    }

    public void stopRecord()
    {
    try
    {
    System.out.println("BUFFER OUTPUT:" + output.size());
    rc.commit();
    rc.stopRecord();
    }
    catch (Exception e){}
    }
    }

    I found this code on many forums and it doesn't work over every configuration I tryied (SUN wireless toolkit and some mobile phones including Nokia 6680 and SonyEricsson K700i).
    By specifing: <rc=(RecordControl)player.getControl("RecordControl"); > this returns null even if the device supports video recording (checking <supports.video.capture>)....

    thank you all

    I notice that you have capture://audio but the questionis about video. I am able to record videos on the S66 with this code:

    p = Manager.createPlayer("capture://video");
    p.realize();
    rc = (RecordControl) p.getControl("RecordControl");

    videoControl = (VideoControl) (p.getControl("VideoControl"));
    videoControl.initDisplayMode(VideoControl.USE_DIRECT_VIDEO, this);
    videoControl.setVisible(true);

    int x = (getWidth() - videoControl.getDisplayWidth()) >> 1;
    int y = (getHeight() - videoControl.getDisplayHeight()) >> 1;
    videoControl.setDisplayLocation(x, y);

    rc.setRecordStream(baos);
    p.prefetch();

    rc.startRecord();
    p.start();

    Hi,

    Does latest NDS , CarbideJ support Video Recording in the emulator..

    If not, could any one point us with any emulator which supports video recording.

    Also, Devices which support Video Recording at J2ME level would also help. e.g if N90 supports video recording etc..

    "Also, Devices which support Video Recording at J2ME level would also help. e.g if N90 supports video recording etc.."

    S60: starting from S60 2nd Edition (except the devices which do not have camera, like E61)
    Series 40: starting from Series 40 3rd Edition

    Re: j2me and video recording

    Hi Hartti,

    Thank you for details.. Could you pl. let me know the specific model of nokia phone avaiable in India which supports S60 2nd Edition.. Or is there a site/spec where I could see these details with 100% accuracy.

    Also, does any emulator support (either carbide.j emulator or other manufacturer) video recording code..

    Hi Raja,

    AFAIK there's no emulator that allows you to record video using it. What do you want, record video using an emulator and a web cam? No way

    Best,

    o.k the web cam live video capture by emulator is the ideal way, however, as this is only a emulator.. it could support capture of live camera screens (in wtk.. live camera is represented by some std. movie clip). I only want to make sure the api we are using for capture are o.k. Like the way I check voice recording code.

    Hi Chirag,

    Please create your own threads and do not hijack other people's threads.

    Anyway, in JME you must use MMAPI - JSR-135 to record video and audio.

    Make sure your target devices support it - http://www.forum.nokia.com/devices/matrix_all_1.html

    Hope this helps!
