Unhappy Can't open application on the device

    hello,,

i created and installed a sis file on a 6680 handset. When i try to open the application on the device, it immediately exits and displays a "System Error" message with no error codes....

Anyone who know what could have caused this? thanks..

This kind of queries were discussed 100 times in this forum... First create the ErrRd in your device's c:\system\bootdata\ folder. Then see the error code.

Re: Can't open application on the device

yes.. i was doing that before.... and error codes were displayed when i run the emulator if there are problems.. and same in the device. It is just now that it cannot display the problem.

I searched the forum and found this link

    http://discussion.forum.nokia.com/fo...ighlight=ErrRd

kiran suggested a link where i can download an Extendederr.sis so i can see the cause of the problem on the device through the error code. But after i install it, still no error code is displayed and the application is not opened...

Creating an ErrRd on device is not that difficult task, there is not need of the Extendederr.sis an all. Just add the below line of code in your package file.

    Code:
    IF NOT(exists("c:\resource\ErrRd"))
    ".\ErrRd"-"c:\resource\ErrRd"
    ENDIF
Don't forget to create the file named ErrRd in your package folder.

By the way I'm unaware of why it's not giving the Panic on the device.

Will it really work with 6680 phone from original poster?

For that you've to change the path, that's it... I forgot to include for both. The one which I've mentioned is for 3rd Ed.

    For 2.x device:

    ".\ErrRd"-"c:\system\bootdata\ErrRd"

Or even you can create it manually, but in 3rd Ed. that isn't possible because of security reason.

ExtendedErr.Sis helps in preventing from Typo errors.

Yes, I agree for 3rd edition.

The ErrRd File doesnt work promptly in the device rather it works fine in the emulator.

Works fine on the N73, E60 and E61.

The only problem you are likely to find is that if another application has already installed it, then the application being installed will not be able to be installed and you will get an error "Update Error"

But Paul, don't you try this in your package?

    Code:
    IF NOT(exists("c:\resource\ErrRd"))
    ".\ErrRd"-"c:\resource\ErrRd"
    ENDIF
I've posted this in the beginning. But still there is one issue. Suppose you've installed an application with ErrRd, and install the second application. Now if you uninstall the first app the ErrRd will also be removed. In that case it would be better to go for a common sis file only for ErrRd.
