    Exclamation S60 SDK 3rd edition FP1 Emulator problem

    Hi,

    I'm facing the following problem:

    I've installed S60_3rd_FP1_4 "latest" SDK and everything is OK except that when I try to run the Emulator it works only for the first time. If I try to run it again (from Carbide.c++, startmenu shortcut, or epoc command) the Emulator pops up and freezes there. The menu (start menu of Symbian OS) never shows up and it just stops there! I have to restart my computer inorder to make it fully funcional again.

    Note: I'm facing this problem in S60_3rd_FP1_4 SDK only! I have 2nd FP2 SDK and when I run a project using it, the emulator "the old blue one" runs fine as much as I like :-P

    Can you help me please because it's really annoying!

    Yazan.

    Angry Re: S60 SDK 3rd edition FP1 Emulator problem

    Any help guys?
    I'm gonna uninstall the whole thing then install it again but it looks like it's not installation related problem neither OS thing.

    Anyway, i have WinXP SP2 installed and the whole pre-req. for Carbide.c++ Express.

    Note: the project builds and the binaries are there... The problem is with the emulator itself. Even if I open the emulator "cmd->epoc" the emulator window pops up and stops just before entering the OS main menu. "every other option of the emulator is disabled like Open and Open URL".

    Thanks.

    Another note: This is also the case for S60 SDK 3rd edition.

    Lightbulb Re: S60 SDK 3rd edition FP1 Emulator problem

    Hi,

    I think i must mention this;

    When I run the emulator for the first time, i get the following panic:

    -----------------
    Application closed:
    ncnlist
    KERN-EXEC3
    ----------------

    Then it runs fine... If i try to run it second time, it follows the behavior I mentioned before.

    thanks, Yaz.

    Re: S60 SDK 3rd edition FP1 Emulator problem

    Hi,

    I've witnessed that ncnlist-panic at times. However, not the rest of the problem; the emulator starts up fine in anycase.

    Debug-printouts may give some hints, what goes wrong. Enable logging in your epoc.ini:
    ...
    LogToFile 1
    LogToDebugger 1
    ...

    And check from epocwind.out (or with DebugView), what happens.

    -- ile

    PS. What is the value of JustInTime-setting in epoc.ini?

    Question Re: S60 SDK 3rd edition FP1 Emulator problem

    Hi,

    Here is the epoc.ini settings before logging:

    --------------------------------
    configuration epoc_240x320.ini
    configuration epoc_320x240.ini
    PlatSecDiagnostics ON
    PlatSecEnforceSysBin ON
    PlatSecProcessIsolation ON
    PlatSecEnforcement OFF
    PlatSecDisabledCaps NONE
    LogToFile 0
    LogToDebugger 0
    JustInTime none_EPOC_DRIVE_D \epoc32\winscw\d
    _EPOC_DRIVE_E
    _EPOC_LocDrv_1
    MegabytesOfFreeMemory 32
    MultiMediaCardSize=16000
    --------------------------------

    and after logging (second time run when the Emulator freezes), the log file is:

    --------------------------------
    PlatSecDiagnostics ON
    PlatSecProcessIsolation ON
    PlatSecEnforceSysBin ON
    PlatSecDisabledCaps NONE

    You can see that the Window server panics and maybe that's why I never see the welcome logo and the main screen.

    I'll try to capture the first run log.

    Thanks, Yaz.

    Red face Re: S60 SDK 3rd edition FP1 Emulator problem

    Hi again,

    Concerning the ncnlist panic; in Nokia's release note of the SDK, it's mentioned in the 'known issues' section of the emulator that: "Sometimes an error message appears at emulator startup (ncnlist). It does not affect emulator usage."

    Anyway, I have the log for the first run where I get the panic. The log file is very long.

    Here's the section where it panics:

    ------------------------
    71.545 NCN status bit sim changed 0
    71.545 NCN status bit system refresh 0
    71.545 CNcnModelBase::PerformSimServiceCentreFetching() :: Waiting until starting the SC operation
    71.545 Thread NcnList.exe::ncnlist Panic KERN-EXEC 3
    71.545 RAknUiServer::ConnectAknServer(), handle 1079443495, EikAppUiServerThread
    71.545 RAknUiServer::ConnectAknServer() end
    71.570 AknGlobalNote, StartL:id 1,type 4,prior 3001
    71.570 AknGlobalNote, TryDisplayNextNoteL:displaying -1
    -----------------------

    It tries 3 times before displaying the panic window.

    Also, there are some errors returned by some calls like:

    --------------------
    74.450 CNcnUI::SAPConnected - Could not read SAP connection value, err = -1
    51.225 StartupApp: "CStartupTone::ConstructL(): Tone to play: Cannot find tone. err = -1"
    --------------------

    For the second one, I think it's not important.

    That's it tell now, I'll investigate further. thanks.

    - Yazan

    Re: S60 SDK 3rd edition FP1 Emulator problem

    I had the same problem. Solution was that when I disconnected my Huawei HSDPA USB modem from the network, the emulator started. If it is connected to network the Wserv Panic SCDV 12 occurs. I have no idea what that has to do with Symbian window server, fact is that the usb modem network connection somehow jams it.

    Re: S60 SDK 3rd edition FP1 Emulator problem

    That WSERV panic actually happens when an application does not respond to the Window Server for a relatively long time. You are probably using User::WaitForRequest in a wrong way and/or really long-running methods in your code.

    Re: S60 SDK 3rd edition FP1 Emulator problem

    Hi again

    Actually I am trying to start the emulator, no application code is executed yet. I realized that the same window server panic occurs, if I am connected to internet via LAN. I have never before encountered this problem before.

    Hi Sameer,

    Can you give a link to where we can find this modified file we need to copy please.

    Thanks,

    Hi,

    I just encountered the same problem, just after the fonts are loaded, I get a "Wserv Panic SCDV 12".

    Did you work out what happened and how to fix it?
    This emulator has been working "forever" and all of a sudden, this happens!

    Thanks in advance
