    Question Voip&Sip and UMA

Does anyone know if an UMA enabled phone can be used with VOIP/SIP?

Or are these 2 complete different things?

    Re: Voip&Sip and UMA

    Hi,

UMA is a completely different thing from SIP VoIP. UMA involves sending GSM data over an unlicensed spectrum such as Bluetooth or WLAN. It's not really proper VoIP. Same effect though, cheaper calls.

The other part of your question is a little more tricky. It would depend on the phone. A recent Symbian phone with WLAN that had UMA should also be able to do SIP VoIP with appropriate software. Generally though, the answer is no, not necessarily.

    Hope that helps,

Red face Re: Voip&Sip and UMA

    Dear Sorcery,

    thank you for your reply.

For the save part I will follow your findings, and assume Sip Voip is not available.
