Overview

On S60 3rd Edition devices having a built-in QWERTY keyboard the TextField.NUMERIC and TextField.DECIMAL input constraints do not work properly.

Description

TextField.NUMERIC should allow the user to enter any integer value. On the Nokia E61 and the Nokia E62 entering "-" (minus sign) is not allowed, so users can only enter non-negative integers. On the Nokia E70 this constraint works properly both when the keyboard flip is closed or open.

TextField.DECIMAL should allow the user to enter numeric values with optional decimal fractions. On the Nokia E61 and the Nokia E62 entering "-" (minus sign) and "." (decimal point) is not allowed, so users can only enter non-negative integers. On the Nokia E70 this constraint works properly when the keyboard flip is closed (only numeric keypad is visible). However, when the flip is closed, entering "-" (minus sign) and "." (decimal point) is not allowed, so users can enter only non-negative integers.

Solution

The workaround is to use the input constraint TextField.ANY, however the user has to switch between numeric mode and alphabet mode in order to be able to enter the required characters.
