Java 2 Platform, Micro Edition (J2ME) is the old name for the Java ME platform, because Sun Microsystems took off the 2 from the name after publish new versions of the platforms (like Java 5 or Java 6).

Here's the somewhat bizarre history of Sun's Java technology version numbering:

old name, or "developer version" new name, or "product version"
Java 1.0
Java 1.1
Java2 1.2
Java2 1.3
Java2 1.4
Java2 1.5 Java 5
Java2 1.6 Java 6
("Java2" phased out) Java 7
