Description

An attempt to initialize OCR (Optical Character Recognition) Engine using the following method fails with -5 (KErrNotSupported) error:

static MOCREngineInterface* CreateOCREngineL( MOCREngineObserver& aObserver,  const TOcrEngineEnv aEngineEnv, TEngineType aEngineType );

How to reproduce

This issue can be reproduced with the OCR example application (S60Ex/ORCExample) in the S60 3rd Edition, Feature Pack 1 SDK.
While the example can be run on the emulator, it displays an error Initializing OCR Engine Failed: -5 on the target device.

Solution

Currently no known solution. Even though the OCR feature is documented to be part of the S60 3rd Edition, Feature Pack 1 platform, current S60 3rd Edition, FP1 and FP2 devices do not support it.
