Talk:Combining imaging filters to create new real-time camera effects

Hamishwillee - Minor subedit/Review

Hi navibyte ( you might want to update your profile and make it public in the privacy link)

I gave this a very very minor update for wiki style. Some of the English is not "perfect" but it's good enough. Great to see links to other resources - I removed one or two though that did not "add value". I also added a gallery of all the images near the introduction - IMO a picture tells a thousand words, and its best to get those words near the top.

I think this article was quite a lot of fun :-) What I liked most about it was that you took the time to provide some measure of how the combined filters perform and how this compares to the original filter.

In terms of "room for improvement"

  • Would be good to have a youtube clip or similar of the "animated filter effect" - we're left to guess or actually try it. I think this is a really cool idea :-)
  • One thing along these lines I'd love to see is a video or animated GIF displaying varying filter parameters on an image with the parameter changing value overlaid. This would allow changes in the filters to be shown dynamically
  • The filters you've shown a final shot - say for the edge you've used greyscale, magic pen, contrast. Would be good to see the intermediate images displayed - so we can see how this evolved and the "benefit" to the overall effect of the filter. For example in night vision you've reduced the sharpness and brightness - great to show the steps and explain how they combine to achieve the final result. In other words, you've got some final results, but best to show how you got there.
  • You could perhaps simplify the introduction a bit too

Hamishwillee - And try avoid suggesting copy-paste

PS Also better to provide everything you show in the demo app so people can easily try without having to copy-paste

Navibyte - Thanks for comments

Thanks for good comments. Just edited the introduction to be more streamlined.

I'm going to check also other suggestions later and maybe other improvements on the article also still coming..

Navibyte - Animation examples and filter analysis

Hi Hamishwillee,

as you suggested I just added more detailed explanation how some of the filter combinations were built (especially that edge detection case). And some sample photos about filtered animation effect also. Video would have been really cool but it's easier to take screenshots from the device itself..

"Copy paste" suggestions from the text shall be fixed later..

Hamishwillee - Thanks for the updates

Much appreciated

Hamishwillee - Update to latest imaging SDK?

According to the metadata for the article this is compatible with "Nokia Imaging SDK Beta 1" - can you update it to Nokia Imaging SDK 1.0? That would make it a lot more useful going forward!
