Talk:Creating Emergency alerting app ("Dead man switches")

Hamishwillee - Subedited/Reviewed - what done, not done?

Hi Shai

Thanks for this article - it is kind of cool. I've given it a subedit for English and a little for presentation.

Can you please check if it is still accurate? In particular, in the introduction I want to be completely clear about what this does and does not do. I THINK it does not do the remote activation stuff discussed in the "use cases". The summary indicates that it also doesn't send the SMS (is that correct?) In that case, all it does is "alarm" at this time right?

Hamishwillee - As a matter of style

Large chunks of code do not make great articles. It is usually better to split code into smaller parts and explain it.

Shai.i - Hi

Hi Hamish,

The app code and the project is fully functional. i.e. it does send the sms with the location to the list of selected contact you have marked via the settings page. it does not currently also post this alert to Facebook due to time limitation.

The push notification feature suggestion is not planned to be implemented because it will require a server stack and too much complicated for this scope of the article and the app.

Report - Hi Shai & Hamishwillee

Oops I m SORRY , I could see the MIDlet class in unzipped DMS. But Please give me some more explanations on how to run this app in emulator.Thanks.

Shai.i - running the project code

The DMS zip is the project folder of the app, the project is an eclipse based project so you can run it either in eclipse or in Nokia IDE.

Simply import the project into your workspace and run it via the emulator.

Report - Device definition is incomplete

Hi Shai

I resoved the previous issue as there was an error in the project build path, Instead of c:\dev\Nokia\Devices\Nokia_Asha_SDK_1_0\plugins\lwuit\lib\asha1.0

for S40-asha2013.jar, I changed to c:\Nokia\Devices\Nokia_Asha_SDK_1_0\plugins\lwuit\lib\asha1.0 for S40-asha2013.jar , Same change for IO-MIDP.jar

Now I am getting new error as:

The project was not built since the device definition is incomplete. Cannot find the device preverifier no a default one. Fix device definition then try building this project DMS Unknown Java ME Problem

Report - finally got it installed

Hi Shai

Ur App is fabulous. At last i got it installed. Since I am new to mobile app development it tooks me a while to figure out the issues.

Problem was in the Application Descriptor. When I changed the profile from 2.0 to 2.1, device definition error went off.

Any way thanks for the app.
