Chintandave er - Thanks and Sub-edited!

Hi, Thanks for this article.

I have sub-edited this article, added some category like Windows phone 8, Localisation and removed Draft category as this article seems completed. Have some suggestions for you.

  • In article, if there is any class/function used, You should apply {{Icode|ClassOrFunction}} template to it.
  • If there is any page name (e.g. mainpage.xaml) make it bold.
  • If you have source code of demo app, you can upload it and add link here.

You might want to check out wiki help articles Help:Formatting and Help:Wiki Article Review Checklist.

Hi. Very interesting. Do you know what is different with WP 7.5? Is it always possible to localize application name ? http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ff967550%28v=vs.92%29.aspx http://patrickgetzmann.wordpress.com/wp7-localize/

regards,

Ailonv -

Thanks Dave for your tips. It's the first time I'm writing in Wikipedia style.

Yan as for your questions, the changes from WP7.5 include the addition of several languages, the support in right to left and bidirectional text as well other small features and UI improvements in Visual studio 2012. As for the localizing an application app title, although i haven't done it myself it is possible.

Influencer - Localizing the app title

Hi Ailonv, today I created an article describing a problem with the localization of the app title I had and I learned many others had, too. The article contains links to documentation about the title localization, so it might be a starting point. Here it is: http://www.developer.nokia.com/Community/Wiki/How_to_solve_problems_localizing_the_app_name Cheers,

Thomas

Hamishwillee - Ailonv -add as a SeeAlso link?

Might be worth adding a Template:SeeAlso link containing How to solve problems localizing the app name to your article.

Ailonv -

I added the article to the see also section

Hamishwillee - Reviewed

Hi Ailonv

So this looks like a topic of practical and immediate usel. Main flaw is that it doesn't link to your sources/references and other great resources on the topic - e.g.

Please add the main references to "official documents".

There are three main improvements I would suggest for this article:

  1. Change the title perhaps? Something like "Localisation and Globalisation apps for Windows Phone" would be better - the current title is probably more accurate, but I thought I was going to get a fluffy article based on the topic, when instead I got a good one.
  2. Add a code example project showing "internationalisation in practice" - so people can try this out very easily.
  3. I would also start from Windows Phone 7 (both in terms of what was present and what you need to do) and then explain the delta. That would be more useful for both WP7 developers and WP8 developers.

I would also mark up files using bold and inline code using the Icode macro as Chintan indicated.

In terms of documentation structure I'd remove your current introductory text (since it duplicates the abstract) and I'd merge the following two section "Why localize", "About localization and globalization" and "Implementing localization" under the title introduction. This topic has too many sections and will be easier to read if you merge those.

Great stuff!

Hamish

S3lena - useful tool for localization

I recommend to all those involved in software localization projects this user friendly, collaborative, online solution: http://poeditor.com/

Hamishwillee - S3lena - yes, it looks good

Hi S3lena

Yes, that does look good. As do alternative solutions like http://www.getlocalization.com/

It would be useful to add a new document on using these services with WP8 apps - ie importing/exporting files into the project - or possibly extend this one. Do you have expertise in doing this? If you do then could you write such an article. We could also do with a new localisation services section in Toolkits and Libraries for Windows Phone for these sorts of articles.

Thoughts?
