Talk:Using the XAML Style tag to format UI controls on Windows Phone

Hamishwillee - Interesting approach

Hi Pooja

Thanks for the article - nice to see something a little different. I've given it a basic subedit - using bold for filenames and menu selections/button presses, putting the image in a frame.

In terms of improvement, my main concern was that it wasn't clear what a style tag did up front in the abstract or introduction. I would consider renaming so its clear what this does, rather than referring to a particular tag name (which will be meaningless, unless you already know what a style tag does. So for example "Using XAML style tag to simplify setting common behaviour on Windows Phone controls" (or similar). Hope that makes sense.

The next most important thing would be to show a screenshot in the introduction showing the default text, along with some text controlled using styles.

I would remove the image you have now - I don't think its very useful. If you do keep it, replace as a thumbnail rather than full page image.

A few more points.

  • You refer to the fact that style tag can be used for other purposes - what? Can you set anything other than text properties. If so what - borders? Can you set the styles of other types of elements, like those for images?
  • I recall dimly in my windows phone training that expression blend is used for a lot of WP configuration work, and that there are template behaviours that you can also set on elements. How does this approach fit in with those sorts of changes. It may be not at all, but its worth asking
  • Great if you can add buildable projects to your articles so other people can check them out.

Hope this helps!

Regards

Hamish

Pavan.pareta - one more suggetion...pooja

In addition to Hamish, you can also consider one more suggestion to improve your article as well, in your article you have demonstrated explicit style; however you can also demonstrate implicit style that is global style for the whole application, it is really very useful to implement a consistent application.

Hamishwillee - Please let me know when you're done

Hi Pooja, Pavan

thanks Pooja. Pavan's suggestion seems very reasonable too - I would make sure to include his links.

Can you let me know when you're done and I'll give it a quick review.

regards

Hamish
