The system property "microedition.hostname" can be used to query the hostname of the device. When network connection is on, the S60 3rd Edition devices always return "localhost". Also S60 3rd Edition FP1 devices behave this way.

The explanation for this is that on current devices one MIDlet may have several network connections open. It is impossible for the system to decide which one to map to the system property. The closest correct guess is to return "localhost" .
