"Remoter" is a Qt-based app which lets you remotely control your computer via virtual touchpad and keyboard. It's a clever way to control slide presentations, music, videos, browse the web, or write text without needing to be near your PC. Remoter has already exceeded 1.2 million downloads in the Nokia Store.

The app was created by Zlatko Stapic and Boris Tomaš, teaching assistants from the Faculty of Organization and Informatics (FOI) in Croatia, as a model for their students how to program an app from scratch using Qt and Qt Quick Components. They found Qt Quick Components really useful when making the UI look professional and modern.

They have now taken the learnings from their Qt development to port to other platforms including the recently released Remoter for Windows Marketplace. For more information check out: http://www.developer.nokia.com/Develop/Qt/

This Surveillance Camera example app demonstrates the usage of Nokia's Notifications API. The Notifications API lets you add real-time push notifications to your client applications.

This example consists of two mobile apps. The Windows Phone Silverlight application uses Service API to send push notifications to a Qt Quick app in a Symbian device. In this example the Silverlight application is the actual surveillance camera and seeks movements in the camera viewfinder. The Qt application receives alert notifications from the Silverlight application when movement happens. Both applications authenticate into Notifications Service for sending and receiving alert notifications.

This example is hosted in a Nokia Developer Projects: http://projects.developer.nokia.com/surveillancecamera

Cristian and Adriana started creating apps when they took part in a local Qt developer contest. They quickly fell in love the Qt SDK, because, as Cristian puts it, they can create killer apps in just a few hours. They particularly like QML and its rich feature that enable sophisticated UIs to be created easily. Adriana is also impressed by its cross-platform capabilities, as she notes that moving a small app from Symbian to Nokia N9 can be done in a couple of hours. In ramping up their development effort, the support from Nokia, both through the Nokia Developer website and from the local Nokia team, has been invaluable in understanding needs and requirements of both global and local markets.

The company launched the app simultaneously on most major smartphone platforms. This gave Nick a unique opportunity to compare development environments: Nick found Qt SDK to be a 'breath of fresh air' and easy to use, noting that a working version of the app was created in just two weeks. Of the Qt tools and technology, Nick pays particular attention to the maps capability offered through Qt Mobility. This enabled him to add a fully functioning map to echoecho with only a few lines of code.

Digia Demos Qt Quick Week 11 - March 14th 2010

The media player is loading...

Qt Quick (Qt User Interface Creation Kit) is a high-level user interface technology that makes it dramatically easier for UI designers and developers with scripting language skills to quickly and easily create beautiful, pixel perfect UIs and lightweight, touch-enabled apps with Qt – all without requiring any C++ skills.

While Qt has catered to C++ developers until now, Qt Quick extends Qt´s user interface capabilities. This creates exciting opportunities for UI designers and developers more familiar with scripting languages to use Qt to create cool UIs and apps for Nokia devices or any other Qt supported platform. What´s more, Qt Quick eliminates the barriers that often prevent designers and code crunchers from speaking the same language.

Digia is using a pre-release version of Qt Quick, the new user interface and application creation tool, to demonstrate how to deliver visually impressive consumer experiences across devices with different software and hardware platforms at this years Mobile World Congress. Watch this video to have a sneak peak at the cool demos developed by Digia using Qt Quick.
