As this is a wiki competition, entries will be in the form of original articles, code examples, tutorials, and guides to showcase the new opportunities for developers in Windows Phone 8. The scope is extremely broad. We’ve put a few [[#Stuck for ideas?|ideas here]] to get you started. [[File:Lumia820ChargingPad.png|link=http://www.nokia.com/global/products/phone/lumia820/|right|thumb|400px|Nokia Lumia 820 on wireless charging pad]]

Our winning articles were unanimously selected by the judges for the award of the [http://www.developer.nokia.com/Devices/Device_specifications/Asha_311/ Nokia Asha 311] and a [http://www.developer.nokia.com/Devices/Device_specifications/808_PureView/ Nokia 808 PureView]. These outstanding articles are listed below:
 +
* [[Getting the most out of Marketing In a Box]] ([[User:cadlg]]).
 +
*: This is a useful set of genuinely useful tips for getting the most out of the toolkit, and is complementary to the material and marketing guidance provided by Nokia.
 +
* [[Integrating your social presence with the Digital Marketing Toolkit website]] ([[User: jappit]])
 +
*: The [http://www.developer.nokia.com/Distribute/Promoting_your_app/marketingGuidance.jsp Nokia App Marketing Guide] discusses the balance of having a deep social media presence with the cost of maintaining that presence. This innovative article shows how you can centrally manage your twitter and facebook presence through MiB website asset, significantly reducing the cost of maintenance.

First, register for a Series 40 [https://www.developer.nokia.com/Develop/Java/Learning/Webinars.xhtml Java] and [https://www.developer.nokia.com/Develop/Series_40/Series_40_web_apps/Learning/Webinars.xhtml web apps] webinar. Then either attend the webinar or watching the online recording online during the week after it’s available. During the session we will be popping up a question and answer, then, in about a week, we will send out a short questionnaire that includes the question. Complete the questionnaire, answer the question, and you will be in to win. So stay tuned and good luck.And every webinar you register for … then attend or watch … gives you the chance to enter.

What we particularly appreciated about most of these articles was the useful and well thought out feedback for Nokia - this has already been reviewed by the product management and much of it has gone into the roadmap.

download and install the [http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=35471 Windows Phone SDK 8.0] (you will need Windows 8 "Pro" for development). If you don't know very much about Windows Phone then check out our Windows Phone [http://www.developer.nokia.com/Develop/Windows_Phone/Getting_started/ Getting Started] and [http://www.developer.nokia.com/Develop/Windows_Phone/Documentation/ Documentation] resources. If you're already familiar with Windows Phone 7 but want to know more about Windows Phone 8, see [[What's new in Windows Phone 8]].
+
Thank you everyone for contributing and competing. We will be contacting winners individually over the next few days for their contact details for prize shipment.

When you're ready, write a great tutorial, guide, or article that explores the new features available to developers in Windows Phone 8.

{{Tip|We'll be attempting to provide editorial and technical review of entries as they are posted. The earlier you submit your article, the more time you'll have to improve it and win. }}

Here are the competition rules:
+
== Competition Background ==
* The article and associated [[:Category:Code Examples|code example]] are submitted to the Nokia Developer Wiki under the site [http://www.developer.nokia.com/Terms_and_conditions/ Terms & Conditions].
+
Contribute and Win is a Wiki Contribution competition being run in conjunction with the Series 40 webinars on [http://www.developer.nokia.com/Distribute/Promoting_your_app/ Marketing in a Box (MiB)], which run on [http://forumnokia.adobeconnect.com/promo-mib-ssn1/event/event_info.html  6 March] (8 a.m. San Francisco; 10 a.m. Mexico City; 4 p.m. London) and [http://forumnokia.adobeconnect.com/promo-mib-ssn2/event/event_info.html  7 March] (8 a.m. London; 1:30 p.m. New Delhi; 4 p.m. Singapore). For this competition we are looking for you to share, in a wiki article or articles, your experiences with creating MiB assets and marketing your apps.
* Articles must be written in English. Translations may be provided in other languages, but only the English version will be judged.
+
* The article should include the text: '''<nowiki>{{Note|This is a community entry in the [[Windows Phone 8 Wiki Competition 2012Q4]].}}</nowiki>'''
+
* Add a comment to this competition page linking to your entry.
+
* Developers can create one or many articles, however there is only one prize per developer.
+
* Teamwork is allowed and even encouraged, but only one prize will be granted to a winning team (this will go to the person who ''creates'' the article initially). Teams may also receive additional complementary Nokia products.
+
* Up to 10 qualifying participants will win a Lumia Windows Phone 8 device
+
* Articles must be submitted before 23:59 GMT on December 16th, 2012.
+

 +
For up to two great articles there will be a pair of phones, a [http://www.developer.nokia.com/Devices/Device_specifications/Asha_311/ Nokia Asha 311] and a [http://www.developer.nokia.com/Devices/Device_specifications/808_PureView/ Nokia 808 PureView] up for grabs and a number of high-end phone accessories for the runners up. All you have to do is attend one of the webinars and submit an article by 31 March 2013.

Nokia and Microsoft employees are encouraged to compete! In the interest of fairness, the following additional rules are applied:
+
As this is a Wiki Competition, entries will be in the form of original articles, tutorials, and guides to showcase the new opportunities for developers created by MiB.
* Submissions will be judged and prized separately from other community developers.
+
* Up to 5 "internal" winners will receive a [http://www.developer.nokia.com/Devices/Device_specifications/Lumia_820/ Nokia Lumia 820]
+
* Only public SDKs and tools may be used
+
* Nokia/Microsoft entries must include the following text (instead of that listed above):
+
*: '''<nowiki>{{Note|This is an "internal" entry in the [[Windows Phone 8 Wiki Competition 2012Q4]]. The author is a Nokia / Microsoft employee.}}</nowiki>'''
+

 +
== How to participate ==

See the [[#The fine print|fine print]] for more information.
+
First, visit the [http://www.developer.nokia.com/Distribute/Promoting_your_app/ Marketing in a Box (Beta)] page and check out the resources available. Next register for and attend one of the MiB webinars, sessions are available on [http://forumnokia.adobeconnect.com/promo-mib-ssn1/event/event_info.html 6 March (8 a.m. San Francisco; 10 a.m. Mexico City; 4 p.m. London)] and [http://forumnokia.adobeconnect.com/promo-mib-ssn2/event/event_info.html 7 March (8 a.m. London; 1:30 p.m. New Delhi; 4 p.m. Singapore)], to find out more about how to use the resources and tools. Then either apply the marketing guidance or create a marketing asset such as a YouTube video or web page.

== The prizes ==
+
When you're ready, write a great tutorial, guide, or article that explains how you applied the guidelines or created and used a marketing asset. We're also particularly interested in the lessons learned and how these could be applied to improve MiB - we will be listening.

We'll be selecting up to 10 community winners and 5 "internal" winners, based on the quality of entries.
+
Here are the competition rules:
 +
* you must attend one of the Series 40 webinars on MiB.
 +
* the article and resources are submitted to the Nokia Developer Wiki under the site's [http://www.developer.nokia.com/Terms_and_conditions/ Terms & Conditions].
 +
* articles must be written in English. Translations may be provided in other languages, but only the English version will be judged.
 +
* the article should include the text: '''<nowiki>{{Note|This is a community entry in the [[Series 40 Webinars - Contribute and Win Competition 2013Q1 with Marketing in a Box]] competition.}}</nowiki>'''
 +
* add a comment to this competition page linking to your entry.
 +
* you can create one or more articles, however only one prize will be awarded per person.
 +
* articles must be submitted before 23:59 GMT on 31 March 2013.

Community winners will be sent a brand new ''Lumia Windows Phone 8'' device - either a [http://www.developer.nokia.com/Devices/Device_specifications/Lumia_920/ Nokia Lumia 920] or a [http://www.developer.nokia.com/Devices/Device_specifications/Lumia_820/ Lumia 820] (we have ordered 5 of each device). On top of that, winning a Nokia Developer Competition gives you instant fame and kudos in the community and promotion through the wiki and our social media. It also looks really great on your CV!

Nokia/Microsoft competitors will be judged and prized separately - we have 5 [http://www.developer.nokia.com/Devices/Device_specifications/Lumia_820/ Nokia Lumia 820] devices for "internal" winners.
+
See the [[#The fine print|fine print]] for more information.
+
== Evaluation of entries ==
+

Entries will be judged on their innovation, their practical use in the "real world", and/or how comprehensively they cover their topic. As usual, we'll also be considering the usefulness, quality, and presentation of technical information. Multiple entries are encouraged but will be assessed on their individual merits - so a single great entry will win over multiple less-impressive articles.
+
== The prizes ==

The entries will be judged by the [[Nokia_Developer_Wiki_Administration|Wiki Moderation team]] and selected Nokia technical experts at the end of the competition. Typically, results are posted within a week of the end of the competition.
+
We'll be selecting up to two (2) overall winners, based on the quality of entries. Each selected overall winner will be sent a brand new  [http://www.developer.nokia.com/Devices/Device_specifications/Asha_311/ Nokia Asha 311] and a [http://www.developer.nokia.com/Devices/Device_specifications/808_PureView/ Nokia 808 PureView].

== Feedback ==
+
Runners up will receive high-end phone accessories.

Generic questions or comments concerning this competition can be addressed as comments to this wiki page.  Questions related to development should be raised on the [http://www.developer.nokia.com/Community/Discussion/forumdisplay.php?272-Windows-Phone Windows Phone discussion board].
+
Where legal restrictions prevent the drawn prize being delivered, an alternative prize will be awarded.

== Stuck for ideas? ==
+
In addition, remember that winning a Nokia Developer Competition gives you instant fame and kudos in the community and promotion through the wiki and our social media.
 +
 +
== Evaluation of entries ==

We're looking for original articles that showcase new Windows Phone 8 features, or highlight tips, tricks, and best practices for working with the platform.
+
Entries will be judged on their insight into the use of Marketing in a Box, their practical use in the "real world", and/or how comprehensively they cover their topic. As usual, we'll also be considering the usefulness, quality, and presentation of information. What we particularly appreciated about most of these articles was the useful and well thought out feedback for Nokia - this has already been reviewed by the product management and much of it has gone into the roadmap.

Thank you everyone for contributing and competing. We will be contacting winners individually over the next few days for their contact details for prize shipment.

Competition Background

Contribute and Win is a Wiki Contribution competition being run in conjunction with the Series 40 webinars on Marketing in a Box (MiB), which run on 6 March (8 a.m. San Francisco; 10 a.m. Mexico City; 4 p.m. London) and 7 March (8 a.m. London; 1:30 p.m. New Delhi; 4 p.m. Singapore). For this competition we are looking for you to share, in a wiki article or articles, your experiences with creating MiB assets and marketing your apps.

For up to two great articles there will be a pair of phones, a Nokia Asha 311 and a Nokia 808 PureView up for grabs and a number of high-end phone accessories for the runners up. All you have to do is attend one of the webinars and submit an article by 31 March 2013.

As this is a Wiki Competition, entries will be in the form of original articles, tutorials, and guides to showcase the new opportunities for developers created by MiB.

How to participate

First, visit the Marketing in a Box (Beta) page and check out the resources available. Next register for and attend one of the MiB webinars, sessions are available on 6 March (8 a.m. San Francisco; 10 a.m. Mexico City; 4 p.m. London) and 7 March (8 a.m. London; 1:30 p.m. New Delhi; 4 p.m. Singapore), to find out more about how to use the resources and tools. Then either apply the marketing guidance or create a marketing asset such as a YouTube video or web page.

When you're ready, write a great tutorial, guide, or article that explains how you applied the guidelines or created and used a marketing asset. We're also particularly interested in the lessons learned and how these could be applied to improve MiB - we will be listening.

Here are the competition rules:

  • you must attend one of the Series 40 webinars on MiB.
  • the article and resources are submitted to the Nokia Developer Wiki under the site's Terms & Conditions.
  • articles must be written in English. Translations may be provided in other languages, but only the English version will be judged.
  • the article should include the text: {{Note|This is a community entry in the [[Series 40 Webinars - Contribute and Win Competition 2013Q1 with Marketing in a Box]] competition.}}
  • add a comment to this competition page linking to your entry.
  • you can create one or more articles, however only one prize will be awarded per person.
  • articles must be submitted before 23:59 GMT on 31 March 2013.

The prizes

We'll be selecting up to two (2) overall winners, based on the quality of entries. Each selected overall winner will be sent a brand new Nokia Asha 311 and a Nokia 808 PureView.

Runners up will receive high-end phone accessories.

Where legal restrictions prevent the drawn prize being delivered, an alternative prize will be awarded.

In addition, remember that winning a Nokia Developer Competition gives you instant fame and kudos in the community and promotion through the wiki and our social media.

Evaluation of entries

Entries will be judged on their insight into the use of Marketing in a Box, their practical use in the "real world", and/or how comprehensively they cover their topic. As usual, we'll also be considering the usefulness, quality, and presentation of information. Multiple entries are encouraged, but will be assessed on their individual merits — so a single great entry will win over multiple less-impressive articles.

The entries will be judged by selected Nokia technical experts at the end of the competition. Typically, results are posted within a week of the end of the competition.
